Hands-on Yoga Alignment & Guidance

We believe in guiding, not forcing. Our corrections are a conversation between teacher and student, helping you understand your body and build a sustainable practice.

A physical correction is a conversation between teacher and student, breath and body. Here, we demonstrate how to create space on the inhale and soften on the exhale for a deeper, more harmonious backbend.

In Parsva Dhanurasana, a firm grip and conscious breath are key. This adjustment helps the student feel the correct engagement, creating a reference point for their independent practice.

For advanced poses, hands-on support is about exploring movement beyond perceived limits. These corrections are not about achieving perfection, but about creating a powerful experience of what is possible.

Our online classes are designed to make yoga accessible to everybody. We use insightful cues and a deep understanding of alignment to ensure students benefit physically and mentally, even from a distance.

We are committed to helping our online students engage their bodies safely and effectively. This image, showing a hands-on correction, represents the level of detailed guidance we bring to every class.

Before giving a physical correction, we always start with verbal cues and demonstration. This video shows how to effectively assist a student in Parsvakonasana to align the spine and experience the pose optimally.

In our teacher training, students learn the art of observation and correction. Here, a teacher-in-training learns to guide a fellow student into a deeper, more aligned forward fold.

About this collection

Physical adjustments are not about reaching a perfect pose. Instead, think of them as a dialogue between your body and our guidance. When we assist you in a posture, we are not forcing you deeper; we are showing you how to engage your muscles and breath so you can find that alignment safely on your own the next time you step on the mat.

Our Approach to Alignment

Yoga is a path, and every student walks it differently. In our Whitefield studio, we see physical adjustments as a tool for deepening awareness, not for correcting 'errors.' Whether you are practicing Parsva Dhanurasana or a simple forward fold, our goal is to help you feel the engagement of your muscles and the depth of your breath.

The Three-Step Method

We don't believe in immediate hands-on intervention. Before touching a student, we follow a specific process to ensure the correction is respectful and effective:

  1. Verbal Cues: We start by providing clear instructions to help you understand the pose through your own internal focus.
  2. Demonstration: If the verbal guidance isn't clear, we show the alignment visually.
  3. Physical Assistance: Only when necessary do we step in, asking for permission first, to provide a gentle adjustment that highlights where your body can create space.

Why This Matters for Your Practice

This method is central to our Hatha Yoga Teacher Training (RYS 200). We teach our students that an adjustment should act as a 'memory' for the body. By feeling the correct spinal alignment or the rotation of a hip, you develop the proprioception needed to practice independently at home. We focus on biomechanics—understanding why a pose works for different bodies—rather than expecting every student to look identical. Our non-residential program at Garden of Samskaras gives you the environment to practice these skills consistently, moving from student to observer, and finally to a guide.
