Rooted in Tradition: Yoga and Bharatanatyam Fusion
Discover the intersection of classical Indian dance and mindful yoga. I bring my years of training in Bharatanatyam into our asanas, teaching you that every movement can be an expression of the divine.
My background as a trained Bharatanatyam dancer deeply influences my understanding of yoga. The hand mudras and expressive movements are another language for connecting with the divine, reminding me that awareness, not the pose, is the goal.
This video is a tribute to my dance training, blending classical movements with yogasanas. It shows how different forms of mindful movement can all lead to the same place: a deeper connection to self and higher consciousness.
Practicing asanas in a saree is a joyful expression of my culture and a reminder that yoga is not confined to a mat or specific attire. It is a way of life that can be integrated into every moment.
A quiet moment of self-adornment, connecting with my feminine energy. My practice is rooted in self-love and the belief that our bodies are sacred vessels of power and grace.
A contemplative pose that reflects both vulnerability and strength. My journey is about embracing all aspects of my being and soaring in my feminine energy.
Seated in a simple meditative pose, I connect with the feeling of being rooted in self-love. This inner foundation allows my spirit and energy to soar.
This image, part of a campaign celebrating movement, shows me resting on ancient temple steps. It represents the timeless connection between our bodies, our culture, and the earth.
A portrait that captures a sense of inner balance and authentic presence. My practice is a journey of self-discovery, and I aim to inspire others to find their own unique expression of movement.
A moment of serene meditation, embodying the belief that our bodies possess a deep intuition. When we listen, they guide us back to our true selves.
Stillness is power. This short video captures a moment of complete stillness, demonstrating that true strength and magic are found not in constant motion, but in the quiet spaces in between.
About Rooted in Tradition: A Dancer's Grace
My approach to yoga is forever shaped by my years in Bharatanatyam. You will notice this in the way we use hasta mudras (hand gestures) and focus on expressive, fluid transitions rather than just holding static shapes. When you practice with me, we do not just stretch; we create a dialogue between the rhythm of your breath and the geometry of your body.
When I step onto the mat, I bring the discipline of my dance training with me. Bharatanatyam taught me that the body is an instrument for storytelling, and yoga is the ultimate way to listen to that story.
The Flow of Movement
In my sessions, we incorporate the fluidity of classical dance. This helps in releasing stagnant energy that traditional static holds might miss. We focus on the anga-shuddhi (purity of limbs) and the alignment that comes from years of classical training. It is about understanding that your body has a natural, beautiful rhythm.
Beyond the Pose
While we do hold asanas, the journey into the pose matters more than the destination. My background helps me guide you to find grace in your movement, teaching you to move with intention rather than force. We are not aiming for a perfect aesthetic; we are aiming for perfect awareness.
Connecting to Tradition
Whether it is integrating the meditative focus required in dance or using specific mudras to channel energy, these techniques are here to ground you. We are not just exercising; we are performing a ritual of self-awareness.
Is this for you?
If you feel stiff, disconnected, or if you have practiced yoga for years but feel like something is missing, this approach might offer a new perspective. It is for those who want to find joy in movement, not just physical gain. Ondu sala try maadi (give it a try once)—you might find that moving with grace helps you find your inner peace faster than you thought possible.
Abharana
I am Abharana, and I believe yoga is a bridge between the physical and the spiritual. My practice, shaped by years of Bharatanatyam, is about finding grace within yourself and learning to listen to what your body is whispering to you. Let us practice together.
