Our Virasat: Empowering a Community of Artisans
Crochet is more than a craft. Through my social enterprise, I train women in rural communities to build sustainable livelihoods and reclaim our cultural heritage, one stitch at a time.
This is our Macramé skill development initiative in Pataudi, Haryana. I am personally guiding these women as they learn this beautiful hand-knotting art, creating opportunities and fostering empowerment.
I call this 'Kind Empowerment'. By teaching crochet to women in underprivileged communities, we offer a sustainable path to financial independence and help them become confident artisans and entrepreneurs.
About Our Virasat: Empowering a Community of Artisans
When I set up our macramé training cluster in Pataudi, I didn't just teach knots. We focused on material handling and tension management so these women could produce professional-grade items independently. This isn't just a workshop; it is an economic bridge, and every piece they create is their own, designed to help them gain financial dignity and confidence.
Weaving Independence Through Project Zariya
Our mission is simple: to make sure that the hands that create our art are the hands that own the success. Through Project Zariya, I work directly with women in rural villages, moving beyond casual hobby classes to structured skill development.
We focus on two key areas:
- Macramé Skill Development: As seen in our Pataudi cluster, we teach the intricacies of hand-knotting. It is about patience and precision, turning simple cords into intricate, durable products that can compete in urban markets.
- Sustainable Crochet Training: We don't use mass-produced synthetic yarns. We train our artisans to use cotton and upcycled fibers, ensuring our 'virasat' (heritage) remains eco-friendly and timeless.
