An insight into what makes a great fielder. It's not just about speed, but about moving early, smart, and under control.
This graphic explains that most dropped catches are due to mistakes made before the ball arrives, like misreading the height or doubting mid-run.
A visual explanation of anticipation versus panic. Great fielders track the ball in an arc, while poor ones chase it in a straight line.
This image illustrates that a dropped catch begins long before the ball reaches the hands. It's about preparation and positioning.
"Hands don't drop catches. The last step does." This tip emphasizes the importance of stable footwork in the final moments of taking a catch.
Replays only show the end result. This graphic explains that the mistake leading to a dropped catch often happens at the start of the movement.
A tip on mastering the googly, a key weapon for any leg spinner. We teach our bowlers how to disguise this tricky delivery.
An explanation of the flipper. This delivery stays low and skids, making it a difficult ball for batsmen to handle.
The basics of the leg break. This is the classic, stock delivery for any leg spinner, and we ensure our bowlers master it first.
An introduction to the top four leg spin bowling techniques. We provide a structured path for young spinners to develop their craft.
About Cricket Insights & Tips
Technical skill is useless without discipline. When I teach the leg break or high catch technique, it is not just about the move; it is about the hours of repetition in the nets. If you watch our drills, you will see we focus on the setup, the stance, the balance, and the first step, because that is where games are won or lost.
Building a Complete Cricketer
My approach is simple: master the basics, then add the variations. A cricketer is not built in a day. Whether you are a junior learning your first cover drive or a senior bowler trying to master the flipper, the process is the same.
Fielding Fundamentals Most players lose games in the field. I focus heavily on the 'pre-catch' routine. As you see in the images, a dropped catch happens before the ball touches your hands. It starts with reading the trajectory and adjusting your footwork early. We run specific drills at our Whitefield and Balagere grounds that force you to track the ball in an arc rather than chasing it blindly.
Spin Bowling Mechanics Leg spin is an art. We start with the classic leg break, ensuring the wrist position and release point are consistent. Only when you can land the stock ball on command do we introduce the googly, the topspinner, or the flipper. If you rush the variation, you lose control. We use video feedback in our private clinics to help you see exactly what your wrist is doing during the release.
Batting With Purpose Every shot, from the straight drive to the sweep, has a trigger point. I teach my students to identify the length early. If the ball is pitched up, your front foot must be in position for the straight drive. If the spinners are keeping it tight, the sweep is your release valve. It is about decision-making under pressure.
At Willow Sportz, we provide the turf wickets, the bowling machines, and the expert guidance. You bring the discipline. If you are ready to put in the work, we will build the foundation together.
