Libraries should be the pulse of a campus, not just book stacks. We design flexible learning hubs that balance quiet, focused study with open zones for research and group collaboration.

The library at Vedanya School, Gurugram, is a bright, open space with a curved wall of windows. We designed it to be free and supportive, with low, accessible bookshelves and comfortable seating to encourage independent thinking and creativity.

A concept render for the library at GL Bajaj University’s Law Institute. The design features a central, circular seating arrangement with integrated desks, creating a focal point for collaborative research and study under a modern, baffled ceiling.

A library space designed with long communal tables and individual study carrels. The large windows and suspended lighting create a bright and focused environment for students.

This render for the Amity University library in Mumbai shows a grand, multi-story space. We designed it with a mix of lounge seating and formal study areas to serve as a central hub for the campus community.

A concept render of the library at Amity University, Hyderabad. The design has an industrial feel with an exposed truss ceiling, balanced by warm wood tones and modern furniture, creating a spacious and agile learning environment.

An informal collaboration zone within a library, featuring low tables and colorful ottomans. We design libraries with flexible layouts that can shift as needs evolve, allowing for both quiet pause and active group work.

The whimsical, tree-themed library at Euro School, Airoli. This space is shaped to reflect how young students read and gather, with imaginative forms that make learning feel like an adventure.

A concept render of the library at Heritage Xperiential School, Gurugram. The design uses standard bookshelves to create aisles and zones for focused study, demonstrating a more traditional yet effective library layout.

A quiet reading corner in the Vedanya School library, flooded with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows. The curved bookshelves follow the building's organic form, creating a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere.

Another view of the Vedanya School library, showing the mezzanine level and child-friendly furniture. The design provides different vantage points and seating options to accommodate various activities and preferences.

About Libraries: Spaces for Research & Collaboration

Every library we design follows a strict two-tier acoustic strategy. We separate quiet research nooks from high-traffic collaborative zones using visual dividers rather than just walls. This keeps noise contained in circulation areas while ensuring students in the study carrels have the silence they need to concentrate, all without making the space feel closed off.

Balancing Focus and Collaboration

Modern libraries are no longer just repositories for books. They are dynamic ecosystems that must support multiple modes of learning simultaneously. Our approach centers on defining zones that adapt to the user.

We utilize commercial-grade acoustic baffles and suspended grid ceilings to dampen echo in high-ceiling spaces, ensuring that even in open-plan designs, the environment remains calm. For high-traffic routes, we specify durable, noise-dampening vinyl flooring, transitioning to carpet tiles in quiet reading sections to physically signal a change in behavioral expectations.

Technical Specifications for Longevity

We build for the long term. Our institutional library projects typically incorporate:

  • Custom Joinery: Floor-to-ceiling book stacks with integrated LED task lighting and concealed wiring.
  • Smart Zoning: Architectural partitions, such as glass-enclosed quiet corners or open-frame shelving, that provide privacy without visual isolation.
  • Adaptive Furniture: Modular desking and study carrels equipped with power and data ports, allowing layout changes as technology requirements evolve.
  • Lighting Design: A mix of 500+ Lux linear lights for general illumination and focused table lamps for individual research stations, preventing eye strain during long study sessions.

Whether retrofitting an existing building or planning a new academic wing, we ensure every square foot serves a clear educational purpose. We focus on low-VOC materials and sustainable building practices to ensure the space is as healthy as it is functional.

We view libraries as the soul of any campus, not merely book repositories. Since 1964, our practice has studied how students engage with space—balancing the need for deep, solitary focus with the buzz of collaborative research—to create environments that feel alive.
