Beyond Classical: Contemporary and Jazz Technical Training
Contemporary and jazz are not about loose movement here. My classes are a rigorous study of fluidity, strength, and technical control, built upon the same foundational discipline as classical ballet.
Our Integrated Foundation Division blends jazz, barre, and technical dance foundation. This class is for students 7 and above and is also open to adult beginners looking for a strong technical base.
Admissions are open for our integrated professional curriculum. We offer a range of styles including ballet, jazz, and contemporary for dedicated students from age 5 to 25.

For feisty young ladies with panache and sass. Our Jazz Ballet class for ages 5 to 9 is a high-energy environment where students can express their personality through dance.

About Beyond Classical: Contemporary & Jazz
Contemporary and jazz at my studio are not about 'learning routines.' They are about technical conditioning, floor work, and developing the strength required for powerful extensions and complex combinations. If you are looking for a casual session to burn calories, this is not the place for you. Come prepared to work on your turnout, core stability, and musicality, just as you would in a ballet class.
A Different Kind of Fluidity
Many treat contemporary and jazz as an 'easy' alternative to classical ballet. At The World Dance School, we do the opposite. My approach integrates the strict discipline of classical technique with the modern demands of contemporary dance. Whether you are working on floor sequences or jazz-influenced isolations, the methodology remains the same: foundation first.
The Training Methodology
- Technique Over Spectacle: You will not find quick choreography here. We focus on the anatomy of movement—how your weight shifts, how to execute a proper extension, and the mechanics of turning.
- Conditioning: Contemporary dance requires immense athletic power. Expect sessions that involve intense core conditioning and flexibility drills to prepare your body for high-impact performance.
- Expression Through Precision: True artistry in contemporary jazz comes from a mastery of your instrument. You cannot express yourself if your body is not strong enough to execute the movement correctly.
For the Dedicated Student
These classes are suitable for students who have already established a technical base or are willing to build one from the ground up. We are located in Andheri West, and because my studio prioritizes personal attention, batch sizes are strictly limited. Admissions are not open year-round; we intake students during specific periods to ensure everyone in the room is at a similar level of commitment and readiness. If you are ready to stop dancing like a hobbyist and start training like an artist, my studio is the only place you should be.
Ratika Ram Kumar
I founded this school because I refuse to compromise on technical integrity. I see dance as a discipline that builds character, and my studio in Andheri is built for those who understand that true artistry is born from relentless, old-school practice.
