Interactive Musical Storytelling & Author Workshops for Kids
Kids do not just sit still for these stories. We sing, act out the narrative, and get our hands messy with crafts to make every book a full-on adventure.
This is the "Rocket Ship," a fun and energetic chant that gets faster and faster until we all blast off together. It's a perfect example of how I use music and actions to capture children's imaginations and make learning an adventure.
Watch the pure joy as the children groove along to the "Dancing Christmas Tree" song with Miss Swati. My sessions are all about getting up and moving, turning stories and songs into a full-body experience.
Here’s a peek into my "A Tale of the Pashmina Trail" workshop. We start with the story, explore the cultural journey with visuals, get hands-on with a weaving craft, and end with proud smiles and beautiful creations.
Even in a group, every child is captivated during storytime. Here, we're exploring the delightful book "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight," showing that my sessions balance high energy with moments of focused calm and listening.
This is what hands-on learning looks like. After a story, children get to express their creativity through a related craft, like this papier-mâché painting session. It helps them connect with the story on a deeper, more personal level.
I was so happy to host a reading of my book at Kitab Khana. Being a published children's author allows me to create and share unique stories that are rooted in our culture and designed to be sung and experienced together.
A little about my journey and why I believe so strongly in what I do. With a Master's in Education from Columbia University and over 20 years of experience, I've dedicated my career to creating research-backed, joyful music programs for children.
I believe in the power of music to help little ones bloom. As the founder of India's first Music Together program and a published author, my goal is to give children and their families a space to connect, grow, and find joy in learning.
About Featured
When I read to kids, it is never just a book on a page. We take a story like 'The Pashmina Trail' or a funny rhyme and turn it into a 60-minute sensory experience. Your child will not just listen, they will weave, paint, sing, and move, turning a simple storytime into a tactile memory that sticks.
Why Musical Storytelling Matters
I believe that children process the world through rhythm and movement, not just passive listening. By combining storytelling for kids with musical elements, we help them connect with language in a deeper way. When we sing a 'kahani' (story) or use egg shakers and drums to beat out the rhythm of a sentence, narrative comprehension improves because the body is engaged alongside the brain.
The Workshop Experience
Every session I run is designed for children aged 4 to 10. We move away from the traditional sit-and-listen format to a Story-Song-Craft model.
- Active Engagement: We use projector visuals, live singing, and movement drills to ensure everyone is part of the action.
- Hands-On Creativity: After the musical narration, we shift into a craft activity. Whether it is papier-mâché painting or pattern weaving, the child creates an artifact related to the book theme that they can take home.
Practical Details for Parents
These sessions are designed to be an inclusive experience. One parent is expected to participate alongside their child, making this a rare chance to engage in an activity together rather than just watching from the sidelines.
We provide all non-toxic stationery, paints, and instruments. If you are looking for an interactive author event for a school or a private group in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, my sessions are fully equipped with a portable sound system and professional facilitation to keep up to 20 children engaged and energized.
