Interactive Author Events: Musical Storytelling & Crafts
I take children on cultural journeys where stories come alive through music, movement, and hands-on art. Join me to explore history and creativity in ways that stick.
I'm so excited to share my latest book, "The Naqqashi’s Paper Mache." It's a story dedicated to the wonderful people of Kashmir, and I can't wait to bring its story of art and tradition to life in my public readings.
Here is a glimpse of the fun we had at the book reading for "Naqqashi’s Papier Mache." The session included the story, a visual presentation, and a craft activity, making it a complete multi-sensory experience.
A throwback to my book reading at the beautiful Bhai Daji Lad Museum. We explored the story, looked at real artifacts for inspiration, and then created our own painted masterpieces.
A quiet moment with "The Naqqashi’s Papier Mache" after a wonderful book reading session. It's always a joy to see my stories find a home in libraries and in the hands of curious children.
"A Tale of the Pashmina Trail" is written in verse and set to upbeat music. This video gives you a feel for how the illustrations and rhyming text work together to tell the story of the Pashmina goat herds.
Get set, go! We're on the trail to our workshop at The Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalay. I love hosting events in inspiring settings that add to the magic of the story.
This poster for my "Weaving Wonders" event shows exactly what you can expect. It's a pashmina storytime, a sing-along, and an art adventure all rolled into one for a child and parent to enjoy together.
Registrations are open for summer fun with "A Tale of the Pashmina Trail." These interactive story-song-craft sessions are a wonderful way for children aged 4 to 9 to spend a morning.
I was thrilled to be part of the "Read with Me!" initiative at the BDL Children's Book Corner. It's so important to create spaces where children can connect with authors and the stories they write.
About Author Events: The Pashmina & Papier-Mâché Trails
When I host these sessions, I want children to feel the rhythm of the story. We do not just sit and listen to a book, we use our hands to weave, paint, and create, all while singing along to the narrative. It is an active, messy, and joyful way to connect with culture that keeps kids aged 4 to 10 fully engaged from start to finish.
My goal with these sessions is to move away from passive reading. When I bring my original books, like 'The Naqqashi’s Papier Mache' or 'A Tale of the Pashmina Trail,' to venues like the CSMVS museum or local libraries, the focus is on a story-song-craft model.
We start with the narrative, but quickly turn it into a performance. We sing the story, use instruments to find the beat, and get moving. This helps children grasp complex themes like the history of Kashmiri art or the journey of a Pashmina shawl not just as facts, but as experiences.
After the performance, we dive into the craft station. Whether it is a bit of pattern painting or assembly, the goal is for every child to leave with a physical memento of the story. Parents, please come prepared to participate. This is not a drop-and-go activity; it is a space for you to sing, dance, and create alongside your child. My sessions are designed for small groups of 15 to 20, ensuring every child gets the attention they need to explore the craft activities safely and confidently. If you are hosting a private event, I bring everything required to turn your space into a creative hub.
