See what happens when our students move their work from our Prabhadevi studio to the gallery floor. This is where sketchbooks become installations and raw ideas turn into finished pieces.

A quick look at the behind-the-scenes prep for our annual showcase. Our team works hard to get every piece ready, from framing canvases to organizing the final layout. The energy and excitement before a show are contagious.

A closer look at the Mumbai Mirror feature on our 'The Art of Rethinking' exhibition. The article highlights the imaginative work of our students, from a nine-year-old's fabric dragon to a fourteen-year-old's acrylic and glitter canvas.

The Times of India covered our exhibition, describing our studio as 'a school for thinkers'. The article praises our radical idea that art begins with thought, not just technical skill, and our focus on a 'thinking-led process'.

The world doesn't change, only the way we see it. In this video, I invite you to our year-end exhibition to see how our students have reimagined the world. It's a kaleidoscope of possibility, where every piece offers a new way to see.

A final look at our 'ARTEXTIC' exhibition, where art meets text. This video captures the incredible installations, including letters seeming to fly out of a book, and the heartfelt notes left by visitors. A true celebration of creativity.

The results from our abstract painting workshop with Ashutosh Apte were mesmerizing. This video showcases the bold, expressive, and personal artworks created by participants who learned the art of letting go and embracing the unpredictable.

Our middle school students captured the visual culture of our city in their paintings. Inspired by artist Sudhir Patwardhan, they wove billboards, signs, and graffiti into their work, transforming everyday observations into powerful art.

A vibrant, three-dimensional letter sculpture from our student exhibition. This piece showcases how we encourage students to play with form, pattern, and color, pushing their creativity beyond the two-dimensional canvas.

Visitors on opening night exploring the incredible accordion-style sketchbooks and zines created by our students. Each book is a unique world of stories, drawings, and ideas, showcasing the depth of their creative thinking.

The countdown begins! This video documents the entire process of moving our students' art from the studio to the gallery. From careful packing and checklist reviews to loading the truck, it's a massive team effort to bring the exhibition to life.

About From Studio to Gallery: Our Annual Exhibitions

This is not just about hanging paintings on a wall. When you walk through our annual showcase, you are seeing the culmination of months of intense studio practice. We teach students how to select their own work, articulate their creative decisions, and handle the professional side of an exhibition, because the physical piece is only half the journey.

Every year, we transform our studio environment into a professional gallery space. This is the moment where we stop being a classroom and start being a laboratory of ideas. When you look at our student work, you will not see standardized techniques or repetitive exercises. You see the result of our thinking-led process. Our students, ranging from kids to adults, spend months investigating themes, testing materials, and documenting their failures just as much as their successes. Whether it is an intricate accordion sketchbook, a large-scale letter sculpture, or a canvas reflecting our city's visual chaos, every piece here has a story.

We do not just teach painting. We teach students how to hold a conversation about their art. They learn to organize their strongest pieces, explain their creative decisions, and handle the pressure of an opening night. Our exhibition at the Nehru Centre, for example, showcased work that questioned what it means to be an artist in Mumbai today. It is about understanding that a mistake is just an idea that changed its mind. By the time a student reaches the exhibition phase, they have already built a body of work that is ready for college applications, scholarships, or their own professional practice. If you are ready to stop copying pictures and start thinking like an artist, this is where you belong.

I am Purnima Sampat. I founded The Art Studio Mumbai to prove that art is a way of thinking, not just a skill. Watching my students take their ideas from our messy studio floor to a professional gallery space at the Nehru Centre is exactly why I do this.
