Explore the hands-on world of printmaking. From building textured collagraph plates to woodcut carving, master new techniques with our professional etching press.

From the initial sketch to the final reveal, our woodcut workshops cover every step of the process. This video shows students carefully designing, carving their blocks, and using the press to create their own edition of prints.

The collagraphy process is all about building and revealing. Students create textured plates, apply ink, and then use the printing press to transfer their intricate designs onto paper, with each print being a unique discovery.

Here, students in our collagraphy session are learning to apply ink to their textured plates using rollers. This step is crucial for achieving different effects, from bold colors to subtle tones in the final monoprint.

A group of young artists focused on their woodcut projects. I guide them in sketching their ideas and safely using carving tools to bring their designs to life on the woodblocks before they head to the printing press.

The creative process begins with an idea. Here, students are sketching their designs, looking at examples for inspiration before they begin the hands-on work of carving their plates for a woodcut printing session.

A young artist carefully applies a layer of ink to her printing block. This hands-on part of the printmaking process is where students learn about color mixing and how to get an even coat for a perfect print.

Our studio is always stocked with vibrant inks. A student learns to mix colors and load her brayer, getting ready to apply ink for a multi-color print. This is a key skill in many printmaking techniques.

About this collection

You do not need previous art experience to start. We provide all professional-grade materials, from high-GSM paper to carving gouges, so you can focus entirely on the tactile experience of inking your plate and working the press.

Our studio is designed for creative discovery, focusing on techniques like collagraphy, woodcut, dry point, and paper pulp art. Whether you join our 5-day intensive for kids or our 2-day weekend workshops for adults, you get hands-on access to a professional heavy-duty etching press. This is not about achieving perfect results on your first try. It is about learning the full lifecycle of designing, carving, inking, and editioning. During our sessions, we guide you through building textured plates, mastering intaglio printing, and experimenting with Chine-collé techniques. You will walk away with original signed prints and the knowledge to continue exploring this medium independently. We keep our batches small to ensure everyone gets enough time with the equipment and direct guidance, whether you are a complete beginner or a hobbyist looking to refine your skills in a supportive environment.
