About From Our Kiln: A Gallery of Creations
These photos are the final chapters of our workshop stories. When you join us, you are not just shaping clay for three hours—you are creating a functional piece that we trim, dry, and fire at 1250°C in our studio. We handle the entire kiln process for you, ensuring your creation is properly glazed and cured, then we courier your finished, food-safe masterpiece right to your doorstep.
Every piece you see here went through our studio's kiln. Whether it started on the wheel as a ball of stoneware or was hand-built during a Sunday pop-up, each item requires a dedicated journey to reach its final form.
The Path from Clay to Ceramic
When participants create a mug or a lamp in our sessions, that is only the beginning. Once the workshop ends, we take the raw pieces back to our studio. The first step is the bisque firing, which hardens the clay. Next, we apply glazes—using earthy, pastel tones that we have spent years testing—before the final 18-hour glaze firing. This process is where the magic happens and where the 'unpredictable' nature of clay comes into play. It is a slow, patient craft that cannot be rushed, and that is exactly the point.
What We Build
- Functional Art: From ceramic lamps with electrical hardware to dinnerware that finds a home on your table, we focus on items you can actually use.
- Hand-Built Sculpture: Our one-day workshops often explore sculptural forms, where you can carve, pinch, and coil to create something entirely your own.
- Wheel-Thrown Forms: For those who crave the rhythm of the wheel, our sessions teach centering and wall-pulling, resulting in elegant bowls and vases.
Your Role in the Process
You do not need to be an artist to join. In our beginner pop-up sessions and intensive camps, we provide all the tools, high-grade clay, and aprons. Our instructors, including myself, guide you through the techniques of hand-building and wheel throwing, helping you troubleshoot as you go. We handle the logistics—trimming, firing, and shipping—so you can focus entirely on the meditative rhythm of the clay.
The Janbo
Hi, I'm Madhumita. The Janbo started as my own escape from the noise, and now it’s become a space where we help you find that same quiet through clay. Whether we’re hosting a pop-up in Chennai or teaching wheel throwing in our studio, we’re all about messy hands and taking a breath.
