Prenatal Yoga Props and Support
Using props like bolsters and yoga wheels isn't about making a pose easier; it is about making your practice safer, more accessible, and deeply restorative for your changing body.
This video demonstrates how we use the yoga wheel in class. I provide hands-on assistance to ensure you can safely open your chest and shoulders, creating more space for breath and relieving back strain.
Here, I am using a yoga wheel to support a deep chest-opening posture. This tool is wonderful for improving posture and creating space for deeper breathing, which is crucial during pregnancy.
A different view of the supported backbend using a yoga wheel. This prop allows for a gentle yet deep opening of the heart and thoracic spine, counteracting the forward pull of a growing belly.
See how we use a combination of bolsters and blocks to create a fully supported restorative pose. This setup allows for complete muscular release and deep relaxation, which is vital for both mother and baby.
About this collection
It is not about making the asana easier, it is about making space where your body feels restricted. As your belly grows, your back carries the weight and your breath often becomes shallow. We use the yoga wheel to lift your chest and the bolster to ground your hips, releasing the tension that builds up during the day. It turns the practice into a conversation with your body, not a performance.
When you are carrying life, your relationship with your body shifts daily. My shala in Powai is designed to support that shift. We do not rush. We use props because they are an extension of the support you need, helping you find alignment without force.
The yoga wheel is a favourite here, specifically for opening the thoracic spine and chest. When your center of gravity changes, your shoulders tend to hunch forward. Using the wheel provides a gentle counter-stretch, creating space for your lungs to expand. Proper diaphragmatic breathing is your biggest ally during labor, and this is where we build that foundation.
We also use bolsters and blocks for restorative poses, particularly for Savasana. Resting on your back is not always comfortable in the later trimesters. We modify these resting poses to ensure you are comfortable, grounded, and safe. This allows your nervous system to switch from 'fight or flight' to 'rest and digest', which is crucial for you and your baby.
Whether you are dealing with pelvic girdle pain or just need to slow down, these tools allow us to modify every sequence to your specific trimester. Thoda patience rakho—it is about feeling good in your skin, not reaching your toes. Come in for a session, and we will find what works for your unique journey.

I believe pregnancy is a sacred reset, not a time to push your limits. At my shala in Powai, we focus on safe, mindful movement, using props to listen to what your body needs today—not what it did yesterday.
