Theatrical and Period Styling for Film and Shoots
Authenticity is everything in period styling. From royal regalia to cinematic mood-boarding, I build visuals that tell a complete, believable story.
A teaser for the short film 'Faye', for which I was the costume stylist. The styling for the characters was designed to be natural and evocative, helping to build their personalities and the film's moody, romantic atmosphere.
Another promotional clip for 'Faye'. This shows the different looks for the characters across various scenes, from casual outdoor wear to more intimate indoor moments, all styled to serve the film's narrative.
The official trailer announcement for 'Faye'. As a costume stylist for film, my job is to ensure every piece of clothing helps tell the story and feels authentic to the characters and their journey.
A character portrait of Maharaj Mahendra Prathap Singh from the theatrical production 'Ek Mahal Ki Daastan'. I styled him in a regal sherwani, a traditional turban, and a velvet shawl to create an authoritative and kingly presence.
The portrait of Maharani Rukmini from 'Ek Mahal Ki Daastan'. Her styling features a richly embroidered saree, a heavy polki necklace, and a soft dupatta, designed to convey her status and graceful demeanor.
Character styling for Rajkumar Uday Prathap Singh. The all-white ensemble with gold embroidery and a matching shawl, paired with a hookah, establishes his character as a prince of leisure and power.
Styling for Rajkumar Rajyavardhan Singh. His look is softer, with a blush-pink sherwani and a single rose, suggesting a more romantic and thoughtful character within the royal court.
About this collection
Period styling requires more than just costumes. It is about deep research to ensure every garment, from the velvet shawl of a Maharaja to the block-printed lehenga of a handmaiden, aligns with the era and the character's specific social status. I focus on material texture, historical accuracy, and the narrative arc of your project to ensure the visual tone remains consistent across every frame.
My approach to theatrical and period productions is rooted in character-building. When I worked on the royal-themed series 'Ek Mahal Ki Daastan', the goal was not just to dress the actors in traditional attire, but to use specific elements like polki jewelry, carefully chosen headgear, and layered fabrics to visually distinguish the Maharaj from the court attendants.
Every project starts with a script breakdown or a concept brief. Whether it is the moody, romantic atmosphere required for a film like 'Faye' or a high-contrast period portrait, I manage the full spectrum of costume and styling needs. This includes sourcing authentic fabrics, coordinating with art teams for prop compatibility, and ensuring wardrobe continuity during long production days.
I handle end-to-end costume styling, from the initial research phase and mood board creation to on-set garment care and dressing. If you are a production house or a director looking for a stylist who understands that clothing is the primary vessel for character storytelling, we should talk. My process ensures the screen presence feels deliberate, whether we are recreating a bygone era or building an entirely new fictional world.
