Character Wardrobe Design for Film & TV
Costumes aren't just fabric; they give soul to the character. Whether it's a gritty don or a graceful matriarch, I work to build a wardrobe that tells a story and feels real on screen.
The official trailer for 'Raid 2'. I was part of the costume team that helped define the look and feel for the entire cast, from the leads to the background characters.
A beautiful on-set moment from 'Raid 2'. Supriya Pathak ji's look as Amma was all about emotion, and her simple, elegant sari was central to portraying her character's grace.
"Har takatwar aadmi ke piche, ek aur bhi takatwar maa hoti hai." This dialogue perfectly captures the essence of Supriya Pathak ji's character, and her costume was designed to reflect that quiet strength.
On the set of 'Raid 2', ensuring the fall and drape of the sari were perfect for Supriya Pathak ji's character. Even in a simple cotton sari, the details create the authenticity.
Another look at the costume design for Supriya Pathak ji in 'Raid 2'. The choice of fabric and print helps build the world of the film and the personality of the character she portrays.
For Saurabh Shukla ji's powerful character in 'Raid', the costume needed to look authentic and lived-in. The simple kurta and gamcha add a layer of realism to his formidable presence.
A full-length view of one of the looks I designed for Saurabh Shukla ji. The combination of a white dhoti-kurta and a simple grey scarf creates a distinct, grounded, and powerful village elder look.
Another costume trial for Saurabh Shukla ji. This textured kurta look was part of the development process to find the perfect visual identity for his character in the film.
Playing with different accessories to finalize the character design. Here, a simple pink scarf adds a different dimension to the otherwise neutral-toned kurta for Saurabh Shukla ji's role.
This is the final approved look for Saurabh Shukla ji's character. The simple dhoti-kurta paired with classic leather shoes perfectly captured the essence of the powerful man he portrayed.
About Character Wardrobe: Film & TV
Working on films like 'Raid 2' taught me that true character authenticity is all in the details. It isn't just about picking a nice outfit; it is about the specific drape of a cotton sari or the worn texture of a kurta that helps an actor completely disappear into their role.
Fashion world glamorous lagta hai (looks glamorous), but the reality is, it is a grind. I dive deep into scripts with directors to build characters from scratch, whether I am styling a powerful don or a nostalgic retro look. My process goes beyond just sourcing; it involves character breakdown, look testing, and on-set supervision to ensure every detail holds up under the camera's lens.
From the quilted velvet robe for Govind Namdev in 'Raid' to the precise draping for Ali Asgar's characters, I handle everything. I am comfortable with traditional saree and turban draping, and I even do on-spot fittings inside a vanity van. I am not scared of messy shoots or tight deadlines. Sach kahun toh (Honestly), it is not always easy, but majja hi majja hai (it is all fun). My team and I focus on continuity tracking, aging and distressing garments, and managing large crowds so that everything looks authentic the moment the director calls action.
