About Dinner Plates & Sets
Because these are wheel-thrown, you will not find perfectly identical factory sets here. You might spot a slight variation in a glaze drip or a subtle difference in the foot ring, which is exactly how you know it is authentic handmade stoneware. We glaze in small batches, so every piece, from wide dinner plates to deep bowls, carries the unique imprint of our kiln firing process.
Why High-Fired Stoneware?
Everything we make is high-fired at approximately 1285°C (Cone 10 reduction). This isn't just for the finish; it makes our clay non-porous, food-safe, and durable enough for daily use in the microwave and dishwasher. We want our plates to last through years of dinners, not just sit on a shelf.
The Glaze Personality
Our glaze experiments are where things get wild. We mix all our own glazes in the studio, which is why you see variations in our signature colors:
- Chun: An opalescent blue that reacts beautifully to the kiln heat.
- Tenmoku: A deep, dramatic black-brown that creates a striking contrast when paired with lighter glazes.
- Green Celadon: A soft, speckled finish that offers a subtle, earthy depth.
Practical Tableware
We design our dinnerware with actual eating in mind. Our plates feature a slight lip to contain gravies, and our ramen and snack bowls are weighted to provide stability. If you are looking to build a set for your home or need a bulk order for a café, we can chat about creating a cohesive look using your preferred glaze combinations. Since every piece is trimmed and glazed by hand, please expect the slight, charming quirks that confirm your set came from a small studio, not a production line.
