Welcome to our studio diary. This is where we share the real, messy, and technical side of what goes into every mug, bowl, and vase we make at Studio Mudlife.

Welcome to Studio Mudlife. We're so excited to have you here and to get to know you.

Crafting earth's elements into functional ceramics. This is the core mission of our studio.

We see pottery as a craft that combines all of earth's elements: Earth (mud), Water (for throwing), Air (oxygen for the fire), and Fire (the kiln).

At Studio Mudlife, we use Stoneware clay for all our functional pieces.

What is Stoneware? It's a durable, non-porous, high-fired clay that is both food-safe and dishwasher-safe, making it perfect for everyday cookware and dinnerware.

An educational video on "chucks" and why we use them. This simple lump of clay helps us center pieces for trimming, saves our backs, and results in better pots.

The invitation for our first ever kiln opening. We were so excited to unveil our debut collection with our community.

About Additional Work

We use high-fired stoneware clay for all our functional pieces, not just because it looks good, but because it is non-porous and incredibly durable. When you hold one of our mugs, you are holding a piece designed to handle the microwave, the dishwasher, and your daily routine without losing its charm.

Crafting Earth's Elements

At Studio Mudlife, we view pottery as a balance of four elements: Earth (the clay), Water (for throwing), Air (oxygen for the fire), and Fire (the kiln). We believe in transparency, so we love sharing the multi-step journey a piece takes from a humble lump of clay to your kitchen table.

Why Stoneware?

We exclusively use stoneware because it is a high-fired, non-porous clay. This makes our dinnerware and cookware exceptionally strong, resistant to water absorption, and safe for everyday use. Whether it is a dinner plate or a morning chai cup, we want our pieces to be reliable parts of your home, not just fragile decor.

The Pro Tip: Why We Use 'Chucks'

One of our favorite studio secrets is the use of 'chucks'. Mahanth started using these simple clay tools to center pots during trimming. It saves our backs by keeping the work at a better height, ensures the rims stay intact, and stops pieces from flying off the wheel. It sounds like a small detail, but in production, these are the little adjustments that lead to better pots and a happier process.

The Kiln Mystery

If you have ever been to one of our kiln openings, you know the anticipation. We mix our own glazes and fire them at high temperatures. Opening that kiln is always a surprise because the results are never exactly the same. We embrace these glaze variations, size shifts, and unique textures as proof that your piece was handmade by us, not in a factory.
