Always wanted to work with clay but don't know where to start? My beginner sessions at Studio Gariffiti help you disconnect from screens and reconnect with your hands through simple, meditative handbuilding techniques.

This is what it's like to join me for a handbuilding workshop. You'll learn to pinch, mold, and carve clay into something unique that is truly your own.

Forget your emails and try pottery. This short video shows how you can go from a simple slab of clay to a beautiful, personalized plate in just one session.

This is your sign to try pottery. My workshops are beginner-friendly and I provide all the materials and guidance you need to create your first ceramic artwork.

When a classical dancer touches clay for the first time, her hands already know the language of form and rhythm. It was beautiful to watch her create this textured cup.

A rainy Sunday well spent with clay and coffee. My workshops are often hosted in cozy cafes, making for a perfect, relaxed afternoon of creativity.

About Your First Masterpiece: Beginner Sessions

We don't use a potter's wheel here because I find handbuilding—pinching, coiling, and slab work—to be far more accessible and meditative for beginners. You will walk away with a functional piece like a mug or bowl that we then glaze and fire for you, ready to be collected in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Pottery can feel intimidating if you think you need a spinning wheel to make art. My approach is different. We focus entirely on handbuilding techniques—pinching clay into shape, rolling slabs, and coiling—which allows you to control the pace and focus on the tactile joy of the craft. Whether you are looking to host a creative weekend date or just need to unplug, these sessions are designed to be a quiet, grounding space in the middle of Mumbai.

What to expect:

  • No experience required: You do not need to be an artist. You just need a bit of curiosity.
  • The process: In our two-hour sessions, we guide you through turning raw stoneware clay into a bowl, mug, or trinket dish. It is messy, satisfying, and intentionally slow.
  • Post-production: Once your piece is sculpted, that is not the end. I personally oversee the professional glazing and double-firing process for your work. This ensures your creation is food-safe and durable. Because this involves drying and two separate kiln firings, your finished piece will be ready for pickup from our Powai studio in about 3 to 4 weeks.

We host these sessions in small groups of 6 to 10, ensuring you get enough guidance to actually learn the basics while enjoying the company of others. It is less about a perfect finish and more about the memory you create while your hands are deep in the mud.
