Escape the city for a weekend of clay, calm, and community. Join me for immersive handbuilding sessions at Vaitarna lake, designed to help you slow down and reconnect with your craft.

This is your invitation to start the new year on a creative note. Join me for a pottery retreat by the picturesque Vaitarna lake for a weekend of clay, calm, and community.

Glimpses from a past pottery retreat. I'm excited to host these again, with options for both women-only and open-to-all batches in a beautiful lakeside setting.

Announcing our first pottery getaway of the year. Learn traditional handbuilding techniques in a serene, open-air studio, away from the chaos of the city.

A father and son creating together during our family-friendly pottery retreat. These are the moments that make my work so rewarding.

Even our youngest participants get to explore their creativity. A young artist carefully painting his clay creation at our lakeside retreat.

A group of women finding their focus during a guided session at the retreat. The natural surroundings provide the perfect inspiration.

A participant admiring her freshly pinched pot. The retreat is a space to slow down and appreciate the small, beautiful things you can create with your own hands.

Using nature as a tool and inspiration. At my retreats, we often incorporate natural elements like leaves and woodblocks to texture our clay.

A smile of quiet satisfaction. A participant at the retreat enjoying the process of shaping her nature-inspired bowl.

A look back at the workshops and retreats from the past year. It's a joy to bring people together to create, whether in the studio or out in nature.

About Pottery Retreats: Create by the Lake

Since we are hosting these in a rustic setting near the lake, you don't need to worry about the logistics of firing your work. You will spend your weekend focusing on the clay and the nature around you, and my team handles all the glazing and firing back at the studio. Your finished, food-safe pieces will be ready for you to collect about 4 weeks after the retreat.

A Weekend Reset

The Vaitarna lakeside retreat is designed to be a complete break from the city. We strip away the noise and give you space to focus entirely on the rhythm of handbuilding—no pottery wheels, just the connection between your hands and the earth.

What You Will Learn

My retreats are built for all skill levels. If you have never touched clay, you will leave with a piece you made yourself; if you are experienced, you will have the space to push your boundaries. We cover:

  • Handbuilding fundamentals: You will learn pinching, coiling, and slab building techniques.
  • Nature-inspired texture: We take time to walk, gather leaves, and imprint natural forms onto your clay.
  • Open studio time: You get dedicated hours to practice techniques without the pressure of a ticking clock.

Logistics & Stay

We host our retreats at 130, Awata, a lakeside eco-resort. The package includes all meals, stay, and guided workshops. You do not need to bring materials; I provide all the clay and tools. While the creation happens by the lake, the magic of the kiln happens at my Mumbai studio. I personally supervise the glazing and firing to ensure your pieces are durable and food-safe. It is a slow-paced environment where the goal is not to produce perfect goods, but to find the calm in the making.

I'm Garima, and I believe the best pottery happens when you slow down and actually see your surroundings. For these retreats, I take that same philosophy out of the studio and into the quiet of the lakeside, where the pace is set by nature and not by your phone.
