Transforming your living area into a calm, functional space that balances flow and natural materials for a relaxed family home.

This wide view of the living room shows the L-shaped emerald green sofa, which adds a pop of natural color to the neutral palette. The space is designed for comfort and conversation, with a focus on natural textures.

The living room is designed for both relaxation and entertainment, with a custom teak wood veneer TV unit that features integrated shelving. The clean lines and natural materials keep the space feeling open and uncluttered.

About Open & Inviting Living Spaces

I design living spaces by focusing on how light and furniture placement interact to create a sense of scale. In my 'Time Capsule' project, for instance, I used terrazzo flooring with brass inlays to ground the room, balancing the light grey lime-washed walls. By focusing on these specific textures rather than just layout, I ensure the room feels spacious and warm, not just empty.

When I approach a living room design, my priority is to establish a connection between the interior volume and the atmosphere. Japandi—a blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth—is not just about aesthetics for me; it is a way to manage space effectively. I utilize natural materials like teak, rattan, and jute, which age gracefully and add depth to an otherwise minimalist room.

Structural modifications are often key to opening up a floor plan. I frequently remove unnecessary barriers to create an open layout that allows for natural light to penetrate the deepest corners of the apartment. Where I cannot change the structure, I turn constraints into features. An awkward column can become the starting point for an arched passageway, or a low ceiling can be visually raised using rafter details or vertical wood panelling.

For family spaces, I emphasize durability and flow. My focus is on custom furniture that serves a distinct purpose—from floating consoles that free up floor space to TV units that integrate hidden storage within a cohesive material palette. This keeps the visual noise to a minimum while ensuring the room remains practical for daily life. Every element, whether it is the choice of boucle fabric for a sofa or the placement of an indoor bonsai, is intended to create a refuge that feels both open and deeply personal.
