Design Explorations and Architectural Snippets
A glimpse into the smaller, quieter moments that shape our architecture. From temporary pavilions and hand-sketched visions to the delicate junctions of a brass handrail, these explorations are the soul of our studio.
A glimpse of the Lakeshore house in Hyderabad, a composition of rammed earth and metal on Lake Osman Sagar. The house acts as a filter for breezes and views, blending prefab steel with reddish earth from the site.
A render for a new multi generational family retreat. The design uses a spread accommodation with courtyards and verandahs to create distinct atmospheres of togetherness and isolation for a family of well travelled individuals.
The last of a series of mini snippets from our Alibaug Commune. A set of three homes, inserted carefully into a wild landscape. Life in balance is sought and nailed here.
Kasaya, our little gem that cradles a single champa tree. An outdoor barsati room with a triple height swing frames the living space and opens up the plot from end to end, creating an atmosphere that soothes the soul.
The entrance to a new family retreat, designed for relaxation and natural living. The architecture is spread across the site, using courtyards and verandahs to create distinct atmospheres.
Let's build a New India, bit by bit. This is India's time. These watercolor sketches represent the spirit of our work, a commitment to building with soul and a connection to our roots.
Come visit our Pandal pavilion at NCPA, built completely of Jute and bamboo. It is an ancient space expressed in temporary materials, an ode and a pledge to our Planet. A reminder that there is no Planet B.
A render of a family retreat, where the architecture is nestled into a lush, tropical landscape. The design focuses on creating understated elegance and a deep connection to the beautiful site.
A detail of a spiral staircase where the aged brass handrail curves gracefully. We love the small details, the junctions, and the way materials come together to create a cohesive and beautiful whole.
Calm, white, empty, airy, quiet. These snippets are from the Alibaug Commune we handed over earlier this year, capturing moments of peace and natural bliss.
About Additional Work & Explorations
We document these explorations because architecture lives in the details. From the way a brass handrail meets wood to the dappled light on a rammed earth wall, these small experiments directly inform our larger residential and institutional projects. This gallery is where we test how specific materials and light can shift the atmosphere of a space before we ever lay a brick.
The Analog Process
For us, architecture does not begin on a screen. It starts with pencil, paper, and physical models made of wood or brass. By crafting these maquettes, we feel the scale, shadow, and light of a building before it exists. These images capture those preliminary thoughts and the testing of prototypes—like the structural lattice of a jute and bamboo pavilion—that keep us grounded as students of the craft.
Atmosphere Over Style
We do not chase trends. We look for the atmosphere a space requires to be lived in well. Whether it is a family retreat in the country or a temporary installation in a city plaza, our goal is to use noble materials like stone, salvaged teak, and raw concrete to create spaces that feel quiet, relevant, and honest. Our work in this gallery highlights that the 'extra' is often just as important as the 'main'.
Designing for Meaning
Architecture is about arranging nature and the man-made to create a sense of well-being. By focusing on site-specific layouts—like courtyards that act as heat sinks or verandahs that filter the breeze—we ensure that every element serves a purpose. Even our smaller explorations, from furniture design to staircase junctions, are exercises in patience. We invite you to look closely at these junctions; they are where the true story of our practice is told. We build for the long term, acknowledging that there is no Planet B, and every detail must hold its own weight in time.
