Contemporary Home Facade Designs
I focus on creating residential facades that stand out through a clean, minimalist mix of materials and form. Each project is designed to play with light, shadow, and local climate needs, turning a standard plot into a unique visual statement.
A modern duplex residence featuring deep, cantilevered balconies with integrated planters. The design creates a strong indoor-outdoor connection and uses a simple palette of white, grey, and wood for a clean, sophisticated look.
This residence design features a prominent covered balcony and a mix of materials including wood, concrete, and white render. The slatted gate and boundary wall continue the modern aesthetic from the street.
The Vishal residence in Bangalore, designed with a prominent sloped roof and a wooden screen on the top floor. The facade combines wood cladding, white walls, and concrete textures for a layered, contemporary feel.
"The Twin House" in Kogilu, designed as two mirrored homes on a 60x40 plot. The facade uses vertical grooves and stone cladding to create a unified yet distinct look for each residence.
A residence in Hormavu featuring a bold facade with dark stone cladding that runs vertically up the building. This creates a strong visual anchor, contrasted with white walls and cantilevered balconies.
An earlier residential project in Banjara Layout, Bangalore. This design showcases how I use cladding to define different floors and sections of the building, adding visual interest to the structure.
Another view of the residence from image 57, this time highlighting the relationship with the landscape. The palm tree complements the tropical modernism feel of the architecture.
About this collection
I treat the exterior not just as a wall, but as an interaction between light and structure. By incorporating elements like custom metal Jali screens or cantilevered projections, I control how sunlight hits the facade, adding depth and privacy while ensuring your home looks distinct from its neighbors.
A home’s facade is its first impression, but it needs to do more than just look good. My approach to contemporary exteriors balances aesthetics with the realities of the Bangalore climate.
Materiality and Form I prefer clean, minimalist lines over excessive ornamentation. I often work with a mix of solid and void spaces, using stone cladding, HPL, or Corten steel to break up massive walls. By using cantilevered balconies, I create depth, which provides natural shade and reduces heat gain inside the house.
The Role of Screens In dense neighborhoods like Kogilu or Hormavu, privacy is often a concern. I design custom geometric metal screens or wooden louvers that serve a dual purpose. They act as a visual barrier from the street while allowing air circulation and creating shifting patterns of light and shadow throughout the day.
Designing for the Site Whether it’s a 20x30 site or a larger corner plot, the goal is to make the elevation feel purposeful. I avoid copy-paste designs. Every project, from the Twin House in Kogilu to the Dasharatha residence in Ullal, gets a facade that respects the plot's orientation. We don’t just build walls; we create a rhythmic interaction of textures that ages gracefully with the city.
Slate Studio
I'm Ashok, and I don't believe in architecture that’s just bricks and mortar. I focus on creating homes that look sharp, feel open, and handle the sun properly. If you want a house that stands out in your neighborhood without looking cluttered, we’ll get along just fine.
