Political & Social Commentary Cartoons

bySKDAvailable online across IndiaView full gallery

I turn today's headlines and social shifts into hand-drawn cartoons that spark conversation and, occasionally, a much-needed smile.

A Hindi cartoon commenting on the cancellation of 12th-grade exams. The dialogue captures the public conversation around education policies and political figures.

This cartoon was my take on the 'Janta Curfew' initiative during the pandemic. It uses humor and caricature to depict the fight against the coronavirus.

An editorial cartoon in Hindi about a police inspector famous for his "thain-thain" encounter sound. This piece uses satire to comment on a real news event.

A caricature of Rihanna on a tractor, created in response to her tweet about the farmers' protest in India. This piece shows how I use art to engage with trending global topics.

I drew this caricature of Arvind Trivedi as Ravan on the day his character's journey ended in the Ramayan television series. The Hindi dialogue bubble adds a dramatic touch to the iconic character.

About this collection

My editorial cartoons aren't just drawings, they are reactions to the news, often using Hindi dialogue because that is how we truly express ourselves. I keep the lines strong and the satire sharp, whether it is for a newspaper column, a website, or a personal project that needs a bit of witty, hand-drawn punch.

When I sit down to draw an editorial cartoon, I am not just looking for a likeness, I am looking for the subtext. You might have seen my work commenting on events like the Janta Curfew or viral news clips like the 'thain-thain' encounter story. I believe the best commentary uses humour to make a point that standard reporting sometimes misses.

The Hindi Factor

I find that cartoons with Hindi text connect better with our audience. Apni bhasha mein baat alag hi hoti hai (things hit differently in our own language). It brings an authenticity that resonates deeper than English captions.

My Process

Whether it is a single-panel piece for a blog or a series for a publication, I start with a simple pencil sketch to capture the expression. I focus on 'old-school' ink work with strong lines and real expressions. I do not use digital filters or AI shortcuts; this is pure hand-drawn hustle.

What I Offer

  • Editorial Illustrations: Reacting to government policies, news cycles, and social issues.
  • Commemorative Art: Tributes for public figures or historical characters.
  • Custom Concepts: If you have a specific topic for a presentation, newsletter, or editorial piece, I can bring that satire to life.
  • Digital & Physical: I provide high-res digital scans or physical ink-on-paper work, depending on where your cartoon is going to live.

Let’s get the conversation started. If you have an idea, let me know, and we can sketch out a draft.

I am SKD. I started by fixing torn book pages in my village and never let that passion for art die. I spent years in Delhi as an editorial cartoonist, and today, I use that same hand-drawn style to capture the irony and humour in the world around us.
