These hand-drawn tributes honoring P.L. Deshpande, G.D. Madgulkar, and Sudhir Phadke were showcased at the Maharashtra Triratna Mahotsava in Delhi.

This caricature of P. L. Deshpande, a celebrated Marathi writer and humorist, was displayed at the Maharashtra Triratna Mahotsava in New Delhi.

My caricature of G. D. Madgulkar, an accomplished Marathi poet and writer, also featured at the Maharashtra Triratna Mahotsava.

A caricature of the renowned Marathi singer-composer Sudhir Phadke, fondly known as Babuji. This was part of my tribute series to Marathi cultural icons.

About this collection

Capturing the essence of a public figure is different from a standard sketch. For these Marathi cultural icons, I focused on the specific lines and expressions that make them who they are, right? I use strong, black and white ink lines to keep the focus purely on the face, rather than distracting backgrounds. Whether it is P.L. Deshpande or Sudhir Phadke, my goal is to make the portrait feel familiar, honest, and full of the personality that made them legends.

I created this series for the Maharashtra Triratna Mahotsava held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi. It was a proud moment for me to display these portraits alongside such important cultural history.

My Approach to Tribute Art

When I draw a caricature, I am not just creating a funny drawing. I am trying to respect the person. For these legends, I avoided exaggerated comic features that might take away from their dignity. Instead, I used my 'old-school' technique—strong, hand-inked lines and careful shading to show the character in their face. It is about capturing a lifetime of work in a single portrait.

Available for Your Tributes

I apply this same dedication to every project I take on. If you have a family member, a mentor, or a public figure you want to honor, I can create a similar hand-drawn tribute for you.

  • Technique: Hand-drawn using pens and markers. I do not rely on digital filters to get the soul of the drawing right.
  • Customization: Tell me about the person. What is the one expression they always have? What do they love? I try to bring those details into the sketch.
  • Deliverables: I can provide the original physical artwork, which makes for a timeless gift.

Whether it is for a birthday, an anniversary, or a memorial gift, I treat every drawing with the same focus I gave to these Marathi icons. It is just me and my pen, working to make sure the end result is something you will cherish.
