Editorial & Conceptual Illustration Services
I translate abstract ideas into powerful, hand-drawn visuals that help articles, social campaigns, and websites resonate with people. Let’s find the right visual language for your story. ✨
A close-up of the 'Aren't we all children of God?' illustration. The pencil work is detailed to convey the weight of the emotion in the scene.
A detail shot focusing on the hands and drapery. The flow and texture of the fabric were important for creating a classical, reverent feel.
The full composition of the piece, framed within an arch. This work is a modern interpretation of classical Pieta sculptures, applied to a contemporary tragedy.
A close-up on the face of the child, capturing a moment of suffering and innocence. This is the emotional core of the illustration.
A Mother's Day illustration done with red pencil on paper. It's a simple, heartfelt image about the universal theme of a mother's embrace.
A detail shot of the floral elements in the Mother's Day piece, which add a layer of tenderness and life to the drawing.
A macro shot of the flower buds, showing the soft texture of the pencil work.
A close-up on the hands and embrace, the central point of connection in the illustration.
A detail of the mother and child's faces, conveying a sense of peace and love.
An editorial illustration I did for a story about intimacy and body image. The piece shows a couple connecting and sharing their vulnerabilities.
About Editorial & Conceptual Illustration
When I approach an editorial project, I don't just jump into the final drawing. We start by exploring three distinct thumbnail options based on our initial conversation. This collaborative step gives us a clear direction before I add the ink textures or digital color, ensuring the final piece captures the nuance of your story rather than just decorating the page.
My Approach to Storytelling
Editorial illustration is not about making a pretty picture. It is about bridging the gap between a written idea and the reader's understanding. Whether you are addressing mental health, social issues, or human intimacy, my process is designed to turn your abstract themes into a single, cohesive image.
The Workflow
- Concept Development: We start by talking. I want to understand the core message you are trying to share. I then create three rough thumbnail sketches, which allows us to test different metaphors and compositions before committing to one direction.
- The Medium: I blend traditional and digital methods. I often start with ink or pencil on paper to capture that raw, human texture, then move to Procreate for clean lines and layered coloring. This gives the final artwork a unique character that stands out from generic stock imagery.
- Feedback & Refinement: You get three rounds of feedback—sketch, line art, and color. This ensures the final output is exactly what you envisioned.
Commercial Clarity
I understand that editorial work needs to be functional. My narrative commercial illustration package is designed for media, publishing, and digital platforms. It includes standard commercial usage rights for two years, and you receive both layered source files and high-resolution exports.
If you have a story that needs to be seen, not just read, let's talk about how we can build it together. 🌿
Shirish Ghatge
I draw because it keeps me connected to something real. When I take on an editorial project, I spend time understanding the core emotion of the story before putting pen to paper. It is not just about an image; it is about finding the right visual language to say what words sometimes cannot.
