Caricatures of Global Personalities
A glimpse into how I capture the essence of global newsmakers and public figures through hand-drawn, expressive caricature art.
A caricature of British PM Boris Johnson, drawn when he tested positive for coronavirus. The artwork captures his well-known public persona with exaggerated features.
This is a black-and-white caricature of Prince Charles, created when he was diagnosed with Covid-19. The style emphasizes his distinct facial structure.
My caricature of Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, drawn to show appreciation for his billion-dollar donation to pandemic relief efforts. The little Twitter bird calls him "boss."
A caricature of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, drawn when he declared a state of emergency in Japan. The drawing exaggerates his features to create a memorable portrait.
This tribute caricature is for the German Finance Minister who tragically passed away during the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. It's a somber piece reflecting a difficult time.
About this collection
When I sit down to draw a caricature of a public figure, I don't just look for an exaggerated nose or smile. I look for the story behind their expression at that specific moment in the news. Whether I am using ink for deep black-and-white hatching or subtle acrylics for a portrait, my goal is to keep the art honest and raw, just like the editorial cartoons I started with.
Hand-Drawn vs Digital
Digital art has its place, but there is an apni bhasha (a unique language) in lines drawn by hand. When I capture global leaders or tech innovators, I focus on strong, definitive strokes. That is the same approach I bring to custom commissions. I prefer the old-school feel of ink on paper because it carries a weight that pixels often miss.
How I Create Your Custom Caricature
If you are thinking of getting a caricature done, know that I do not use automated filters. I start with a rough pencil sketch—which we can refine together—to ensure the personality matches the vibe you want. Be it a funny caricature of a boss, a couple, or a friend, the process is simple:
- The Idea: You share the photo and the 'vibe' (what they do, their quirks, or their favourite props).
- The Sketch: I draft the layout and exaggerate features just enough to be funny but clearly recognisable.
- The Final Piece: We finalise the details, and I complete the artwork using high-quality materials like 250 GSM ivory sheets and premium markers, or a high-resolution digital file if you prefer.
Global Figures to Personal Gifts
Drawing figures like global leaders is my way of engaging with the world, but the keeda (obsession) I have for art finds its real home in your personal gifts. Whether you need a framed artwork for a birthday, a farewell, or a thoughtful tribute, the craftsmanship remains the same. I work on A3 or A4 sizes, ensuring every piece has that hand-drawn, authentic touch.
SKD
I am SKD. I didn't go to art school, but I learned by fixing torn pages from old books back in my village. Today, I use those same hands to draw caricatures of global figures and custom portraits that bring a genuine smile to anyone's face.
