Music & Stage Choreography
I translate music into visual stories. Whether it’s a high-energy music video or a complex stage production, I focus on narrative movement that brings every beat to life.
Choreographing this original song, "Family Reason," in a Broadway theatre style was a highlight. We used a large cast to tell a story through song and dance, filling the space with energy and narrative movement.
"Quest" was a powerful stage production that blended Kathak and Contemporary dance to tell the real-life stories of three resilient women. I was honored to contribute to a project that used movement to explore such deep and important narratives.
A fun behind the scenes look at "The Great Indian Train Journey" with the Shillong Chamber Choir. This video shows the rehearsal process and the fantastic energy of the team as we brought all the little stories of a train journey to life.
The voices of the Shillong Chamber Choir are just incredible, even with rough audio. This clip captures a moment with the team during the making of our project, a journey I was so excited to be a part of.
About Music & Stage Choreography
When directing for the stage or music videos, I always map out the silences in the track before we focus on the dance steps. It is never just about filling the beat; it is about understanding the breathing space of your performers so they do not just look synchronized, but feel authentically connected to the music’s narrative.
Beyond the Steps
Many think choreography is just about memorizing counts, but I see it as visual storytelling. My approach to stage performance choreography and music video movement direction is rooted in body language and intent. Whether I am working with the Shillong Chamber Choir to bring train stories to life or choreographing a Broadway-style original song, I look for the pulse of the music first.
My Process
- Narrative Blocking: I start with the director's vision. We discuss the mood, the character arc, and what the audience needs to feel.
- Spatial Awareness: On stage, especially with large groups, every position matters. I work on formations that look organic, not rigid.
- Authentic Interaction: For music videos, I prioritize how the talent interacts with the set and props. It is about capturing a moment that feels real.
Why Narrative Choreography Matters
When we rely on standard hook steps, we lose the audience's emotional connection. By focusing on narrative choreography, we ensure that every movement—from a subtle glance to a grand leap—serves the story. I have handled everything from intimate studio setups to large-scale event production, always ensuring the team feels supported and energized.
I treat every project as a fresh journey. Whether you have a clear vision or need help defining the movement style for your track, let’s collaborate to create something that feels honest and powerful. My work is not just about what you see; it is about the story you tell.
