Narrative Movement and Direction for Screen
Movement is my language. I direct body language and rhythm to bring characters and concepts to life, ensuring every frame tells a story.
Another scene from "Influencer Life" on Amazon miniTV. Screenplay songs are a fun challenge because the movement has to serve the story. Here, the character's pose and expression tell you everything about her state of mind.
A behind the scenes glimpse of the "Family Reason" shoot. You can see the cast rehearsing and the final group poses. This project was a fantastic example of collaborative energy and bringing a theatrical vision to the screen.
About Movement for the Screen
On-screen movement requires nuance rather than generic choreography. We start by analyzing the script or director's brief to understand the character's motivation. This ensures that every gesture, pose, or walk-on looks like a natural extension of the scene, not a planned dance routine. My focus is to make the performance feel authentic to the camera, whether it is for a commercial or a web series.
My approach to movement for the screen focuses on narrative, not just choreography. For projects like the Amazon miniTV series Influencer Life or the musical short Family Reason, the movement serves the story. We work on body language, character cues, and rhythm to drive the plot forward.
Why Narrative Movement Works
I build movement that fits the scene. Sometimes it is loud, sometimes it is subtle, but it is never for show. I avoid standard hook steps and instead look for the rhythm already present in the script. My goal is to capture genuine energy on screen.
Collaboration with Directors
I work directly with the director and DOP to ensure the movement enhances the camera blocking. This applies to various formats:
- Fashion films and runway shows
- Commercials for brands like Campa
- Music videos and web series
By planning the flow and synchronization during pre-production, we ensure that the final result feels seamless. Whether we are shooting in a studio or on location, I prioritize clear communication to keep the team aligned with the creative vision.
