Indoor-Outdoor Home Design in Bengaluru
I love erasing the boundaries between your living space and the garden. By using retractable roofs, courtyards, and expansive glass, I create homes that feel like a private urban oasis.
Imagine waking up to this. This short clip shows how a simple curtain opening can reveal a serene, lush green courtyard, instantly connecting the indoor space with the tranquility of nature. This is the feeling I strive to create in my projects.
This space was designed to be an extension of the garden. The large, foldable glass doors allow the entire room to open up to the patio, creating one large, seamless area for entertaining that is both indoors and outdoors.
Even the kitchen can be connected to the outdoors. A large window above the counter provides a beautiful view of the garden and fills the space with natural light, making cooking a more pleasant and airy experience.
A closer look at the kitchen, where the patterned backsplash adds a touch of traditional charm to the modern, sleek cabinetry. The view to the outside greenery remains a key feature of the space.
This bedroom opens directly onto a private courtyard, drenching the room with sunlight and providing natural ventilation. Waking up to a view like this every day is a luxury in itself.
The sliding doors of this bedroom lead to a beautifully landscaped outdoor seating area. It’s a private escape where the residents can enjoy the fresh air and greenery in complete privacy.
The entire ground floor of this home is designed around the central, sunlit courtyard. From the living room, you have a direct view of the massive art installations and the tall trees that reach up towards the skylight.
About this collection
It is about more than just installing large windows. In a dense city like Bengaluru, creating a seamless connection between your living room and the outdoors requires balancing the aesthetics with the climate. We have to plan for heavy monsoon drainage, cross-ventilation that keeps the dust out, and structural alignments that let the sun in without turning your lounge into a greenhouse. I focus on these mechanical realities first so you can enjoy the view without the worry.
When I design these spaces, I am thinking about how the house breathes. We are not just putting glass walls up; we are looking at how a retractable skylight changes the temperature in your atrium or how a courtyard can act as a natural cooling system for the entire floor plan.
My process for these projects involves a few core elements:
- Structural Integration: We often work on double-height areas that require careful planning for steel supports and glass weight distribution. This allows us to bring nature right into the center of the home.
- Climate Management: Because we are in Bengaluru, we have to respect the monsoon. I prioritize concealed drainage systems and automated sensors for skylights, so you do not have to scramble when the weather turns.
- Material Choice: To maintain that indoor-outdoor flow, I use continuous flooring materials—like large format stone—that run from your living area directly out onto the deck or patio. This visual continuity makes the indoor space feel like it just never ends.
I often collaborate with local craftspeople to ensure the transition points, like metal screens or wooden partitions, are as beautiful as the view they frame. My goal is to make sure that no matter where you are sitting, you feel that constant, gentle connection to the greenery outside.
