Sacred Spaces: Vastu-Compliant Pooja Rooms

Designing a prayer space requires more than just aesthetics. I focus on creating a serene sanctuary that aligns with Vastu principles while feeling profoundly personal to your family.

In this video, I walk you through the pooja room of the Lux Casa. The clients wanted it right at the entrance, so we created a beautiful mosaic carpet inlay to guide you in. The use of light yellows and golds against a white background gives the space a warm, ethereal glow.

This Vastu-compliant pooja room is designed to be a beacon of tranquility. The backdrop of shimmering gold and white mosaic tiles creates a divine ambiance, perfectly framing the deities. It is a space that feels both sacred and luxurious.

About this collection

In many of my projects, I introduce a mosaic carpet inlay right at the entrance of the pooja room. It acts as a visual threshold, grounding the energy as you transition into this quiet space. It is a small, deliberate detail that helps define the sanctity of the room the moment you step inside.

Designing a pooja room is a delicate balance. It is not just about the visuals; it is about the energy of the space. Whether I am working on a dedicated room or a corner unit, my approach remains the same—creating a calm, inviting environment that respects tradition.

The Design Approach

For me, a prayer space should feel like an urban oasis. I often use light, ethereal palettes like white marble paired with gold accents or mother-of-pearl to keep the atmosphere radiant. When we look at Vastu, I ensure the orientation and placement of the idols are respected, but I do so without cluttering the aesthetic. We work with the inherent flow of the room, using custom storage to hide the practical elements like incense and books, keeping the focus entirely on the sacred.

Materiality and Craft

I love bringing depth to these spaces through texture. Instead of standard finishes, I prefer collaborating with artisans for handcrafted elements. We might use intricate marble inlays that mimic a soft carpet, or shimmering mosaic tiles that catch the morning light. It is about those subtle layers—the way a material feels under your feet or how the light hits the backdrop—that makes a space feel truly divine.

Collaboration and Trust

Every project is different because every family’s rituals are unique. During our initial discussions, I take the time to understand what specific prayer requirements you have. Do you need ample shelf space for specific idols? Do you prefer a closed, private room or an open, airy design? By listening to how you use the space, I can ensure the final result is not just beautiful, but deeply functional for your daily life.

I have been designing homes in Bengaluru for over thirty years, and for me, a prayer space is the heart of a home. I do not believe in standard layouts; I work to understand your rituals and beliefs, then translate them into a space that feels calm, intentional, and truly yours.
