Inclusive Art Workshops for Schools and NGOs
I believe art is for everyone, regardless of skill. I conduct inclusive workshops for schools, NGOs, and special needs centers, creating a safe, joyous space where we paint, sculpt, and build confidence together.
It was an honor to host an art workshop for the wonderful children from the Mann Center for Individuals with Special Needs. Seeing their limitless imagination and the pure joy on their faces was truly inspiring. Art is for everyone, and it has the power to spread so much happiness.
The enthusiasm of schoolchildren is infectious. We conducted an eco-friendly Ganesha workshop at Vanita Vishram school, and the students' curiosity and creativity were a delight to witness. Teaching children is a reminder of how natural it is for us to create.
About Community & Social Workshops
When I work with special needs groups or school children, the focus shifts entirely from technique to the pure joy of making. We prepare the space to be completely sensory-friendly, using tactile mediums like clay or simple acrylics that allow everyone to find their voice. I always have a team with me to ensure every student feels supported, seen, and comfortable, no matter their physical ability.
My approach is rooted in the belief that art is a fundamental right, not a luxury. For schools and NGOs in Mumbai, this means I bring everything needed to turn a classroom or community hall into a sanctuary of creativity. Whether we are molding eco-friendly Shadu clay Ganeshas or exploring textures with finger painting, the materials are chosen to be safe and tactile.
In my sessions with special needs children, we focus heavily on the sensory experience—the feel of the clay, the brightness of the paint—rather than the final product. It is about the process of doing. I work closely with organizers to understand the group's specific needs, ensuring the environment is calm and supportive. We have conducted sessions everywhere from schools to local community centers, and the goal is always the same: to create a space where everyone feels successful.
I also focus on sustainable art, which is a fantastic way to teach children about caring for our planet while they learn to create. From recycled bottle painting to traditional Lippan Kaam, these workshops offer a tactile connection to culture and environment. If you are an educator or a social organization looking to add art to your curriculum or event calendar, I am happy to discuss how we can tailor a workshop to your students' ages and abilities.
Shefali Raj
I have been teaching since 1988, and these workshops are the soul of my practice. There is nothing like the light in a child's eyes when they shape their own Ganesha or finish their first painting. My goal is to make sure art feels accessible and welcoming, not a competition, no matter who walks into the room.
