Tributes to Kannada Icons in Blood Art

bySharan EdigaStudio in BengaluruView full gallery

I turn portraits of our Sandalwood stars and historical figures into permanent, blood-based art.

A blood portrait tribute to the legendary Kannada actor, Darshan Thoogudeepa, also known as D Boss.

This video shows the creation of my D Boss tribute portrait, set to a powerful dialogue. It's my way of honoring a Sandalwood icon.

A blood portrait of the talented Kannada actor Dhananjaya, created to celebrate his birthday.

A blood portrait of a historical Kannada warrior figure, complete with a traditional turban and majestic mustache. The piece includes a signature in Kannada.

This video shows the process of painting the historical Kannada figure, from the first strokes on the turban to the final details of the face.

About this collection

Creating a blood portrait of an icon is a technical process, not just an artistic one. I treat every sample with anticoagulants so the rust-toned finish stays stable on 300 GSM cold-press paper. Because this medium reacts to oxygen, I finish every piece with a specialized sealant to prevent fading, ensuring your tribute remains vibrant.

Why Blood? It is the most personal medium I work with. Unlike standard ink, it oxidizes over time, turning a deep, organic sepia that captures the raw intensity of these personalities better than any store-bought paint. Whether it is a tribute to D Boss, Dhananjaya, or a historical warrior, the medium adds a layer of depth that aligns with the 'Sandalwood' spirit.

The Process: Safety is the foundation. I do not use raw, untreated samples. You provide 2-4ml in a medical-grade EDTA vial, the same kind used in pathology labs. I use surgical gloves and sterilized equipment throughout the process to ensure the painting is hygienic and safe to hang in your home or office.

Preservation: These are not temporary sketches. I mount the work on high-quality paper and apply a UV-resistant sealant. This protects the portrait from moisture and the natural decay associated with organic materials. If you are looking for a tribute that feels like a permanent piece of history, this is the way to go.
