Step inside our workshop to see where tradition meets tactile artistry. From sharpening chisels to the final wax polish, witness the generations of skill that turn raw Vaagai wood into spiritual legacy.

For our artisans, the day begins with sharpening chisels. This crucial step ensures that every cut into the wood is precise and clean, a tradition that is fundamental to the quality of our work.

This video captures the detailing stage of the carving process. You can see the artisan's experienced hands adding the final intricate patterns that bring the sculpture to life.

Watch from above as one of the women in our workshop meticulously sands a large panel. This is where the raw, chiseled wood is refined to a smooth surface, preparing it for its final finish.

We use traditional wax polishing to achieve a glossy, protective finish on our sculptures. This video shows an artisan applying wax to a Yaali bracket, enhancing the natural grain and color of the wood.

The art of sculpting is in the details. This close-up video shows an artisan using a fine chisel to carve intricate patterns, a process that requires immense skill and patience.

About this collection

The real work begins long before the carving starts. Every morning, we hand-sharpen our chisels to ensure the wood grain stays intact during deep relief work. This is not just about speed. It is about maintaining the precise, clean lines that define our Thammampatty wood carving style, ensuring your final piece is free of rough edges or splinters.

In our workshop, time is measured by the rhythm of the chisel rather than the clock. We are a family of carvers from Thammampatty, and for us, wood carving is a generational dialogue. When you order a panel, you are receiving a piece of a centuries-old tradition that is officially recognized by the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

The process begins with selecting seasoned Vaagai wood, known for its density and durability against pests. Unlike machine-routed pieces, our work involves hand-chiseling every detail, from the jewelry on a deity's idol to the intricate scales on a Yaali.

We take pride in our community-led approach. You will often see the women of our workshop meticulously sanding our larger panels, ensuring a finish that is smooth to the touch and ready for our signature natural wax polish. This wax does not just add a protective layer. It draws out the natural grain and golden tones of the wood. Whether it is a small wall mask or a 6-foot narrative panel, the technique remains identical. We honor the wood by working with it, not against it, allowing the natural character of the timber to anchor the spiritual weight of the mythological scene we carve.
