About Classic Wood Finishes

Choosing between raw wood and a polished finish changes how you maintain the piece in your home. A raw, unfinished sculpture shows the exact chisel marks and grain, requiring only gentle dusting, while our antique wax polish provides a protective layer and a rich, deep luster that is easier to clean in high-traffic spaces.

The finish you choose determines how light interacts with the sculpture. In our workshop, we respect the wood's inherent character. If you select raw, unfinished wood, you are inviting the purest form of our craft into your home. You will see the authentic tool marks, the varying patterns of the Vagai or Country wood, and the organic texture that comes from hours of hand-chiseling. These pieces often serve as visual focal points, allowing guests to appreciate the depth of 3D relief carving without any distraction.

Alternatively, our classic wax polish and dark walnut finishes add a layer of sophistication. We use traditional waxes that soak into the pores rather than sitting on top like varnish. This creates a soft, satin sheen that highlights the three-dimensional depth of figures like the Yaali or Dasavatharam panels. These finishes also offer practical protection, making the carvings more resilient to dust and humidity. For those placing pieces in entryways or kitchens, the wax finish is often the better choice for longevity.
