Yoga by the Water: Finding Balance and Flow

Practicing by the water brings a unique rhythm to the breath. Whether you are finding stillness in the waves or challenging your balance on a pier, these moments are where my practice finds its deepest release.

Backbends are a practice of opening up, not just physically but emotionally. Here, surrounded by water, I felt a deep sense of release and connection. We'll work on opening your heart and spine with safety and awareness.

The ocean reminds us to let go and flow with life's currents. A moment of balance and peace by the water.

A photo dump from the Maldives, featuring a beautiful Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (One-Legged King Pigeon Pose) on a pier.

Another pose from the Maldives, this time a variation of Hanumanasana (the splits) with a backbend.

A full expression of Hanumanasana on a pier at sunset. The perfect setting for a deep hip opener.

Sliding into the week with a side split on a railing overlooking the ocean. A playful way to stretch.

It looks like I went to the Maldives just to make yoga reels! A flow in jeans, moving into Hanumanasana.

A collection of Crow Pose variations by the sea, including one-legged crow and funky crow. The possibilities for arm balances are endless.

Smell the sea and feel the sky. A flow on a pier, moving from a low lunge into a side split.

Those moments when you feel the energies of everything around you. A dancer's pose (Natarajasana) by the water.

About Yoga by the Water

You will notice I am practicing in jeans or casual wear in some of these photos. This is intentional. My practice is not about wearing expensive gear or looking a certain way. It is about finding the pose in whatever setting I am in. Whether we are on a pier in the Maldives or in your living room, the goal remains the same: movement that feels good and respects your body's limits.

The ocean reminds us to let go and move with the current, a philosophy I integrate into my online Ashtanga Vinyasa classes. While these photos capture moments of stillness in coastal settings, the technique behind them remains the same as what we practice on the mat at home.

Why Practice Outside the Studio?

Practicing in nature, or simply visualizing it, changes your drishti (gaze). It forces you to stop focusing on the mirror and start feeling the pose from the inside. When you aren't obsessing over how a posture looks, you often find deeper engagement in your core and better stability in your balance.

My Approach to Your Flow

My classes are not about holding perfect poses for a photo. We work on the biomechanics of movement. Whether we are drilling down into the mechanics of a forearm stand or working on hip mobility to find comfort in a split, we focus on the transition and the strength required to get there.

If you have been practicing for a while and feel like you have hit a plateau, or if you are simply looking for a practice that encourages you to wobble and grow, I invite you to join a session. We will break down the movements, talk about the fear of falling, and build the strength to move with more freedom. All you need is a mat, a little bit of space, and the willingness to show up.
