I believe architecture has a duty to improve our shared environment. This collection showcases my work in tactical urbanism, from redesigning major transit hubs like Bandra Station to creating community parks and cultural pavilions.

An overview of the nearly completed Bandra Station improvement project. This image shows the reorganized traffic flow and newly created pedestrian zones designed to bring order and safety to one of Mumbai's busiest areas.

Presenting the Bandra Station promenade project to public officials and community stakeholders. Engaging in these public conversations is a vital part of my process to ensure the design serves the people who use the space every day.

A short video of a children's park I designed at Bandra Bandstand. The project, developed with community support, provides a safe and joyful play area for young children right next to the sea.

The BMW Guggenheim Lab pavilion, which I designed in collaboration with Atelier Bow Wow of Japan. This temporary structure, built primarily from bamboo, served as a public hub for workshops and discussions on urban life in Mumbai.

About Urbanism & Public Spaces

When I approach a public space project, the first step is analyzing human traffic and safety, not just visual appeal. Whether it is a transit hub or a neighbourhood park, I prioritize site-specific feasibility studies that align with existing municipal regulations. I work closely with local authorities and community stakeholders to translate abstract urban planning concepts into concrete, buildable plans that genuinely enhance the daily experience of the city’s residents.

Architecture as Public Service

Public space design in a city like Mumbai requires a blend of tactical urbanism and rigorous structural planning. My goal is always to address the chaos of the city by introducing order, safety, and functionality. Projects like the Bandra Station improvement illustrate this methodology; it was not merely about aesthetic upgrades, but about re-engineering traffic flow, widening pedestrian zones, and ensuring the infrastructure could support the daily transit needs of lakhs of people.

The Process: Dialogue and Feasibility

Effective public design cannot happen in isolation. My process involves:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: I engage with local municipal authorities, community groups, and daily users. This ensures the design addresses the actual problems faced by the people, rather than theoretical issues.
  • Technical Compliance: Every civic project requires navigating complex regulatory landscapes. I manage the technical documentation, from municipal submissions to fire safety and handicap accessibility compliance.
  • Material and Structural Innovation: Whether using bamboo for a temporary pavilion like the Guggenheim Lab or designing durable steel structures for transit areas, I select materials that are sustainable, cost-effective, and suitable for our local climate.

Adaptive Urban Design

I treat public spaces as living components of the city. A children's park must be safe and joyful; a transit hub must be efficient; a pavilion must be inviting. My work combines these functional requirements with a deep respect for the context. By focusing on site-specific solutions, I help transform neglected urban corners into assets that the community can actually use and enjoy. If you are looking for an architectural partner to assess a public or commercial site, I can assist with feasibility studies, user-flow analysis, and project execution support.
