Tennis Racket & Equipment Selection Guide
Choosing the right equipment is about finding the tool that fits your swing. Here is why the right gear matters for your game and how I approach my setup.
Here I talk about my racket of choice, the Yonex Ezone 98, and why I pair it with Polytour Pro strings for maximum control and power. As your coach, I can offer personalized advice on equipment selection.
About My Gear: Racket & Equipment Insights
Your racket is an extension of your arm, and even a slight change in string tension or weight can shift your control on the court. During our sessions, we don't just hit balls; we look at your current setup to see if it is fighting against your natural swing mechanics.
Finding the right tennis racket is not just about what the pros use. It is about understanding what your game needs. When I talk about my setup, like the Yonex Ezone 98 with Polytour Pro strings, I am looking for a specific blend of control and precision that allows me to accelerate through the ball. If you are struggling with power or consistency, your gear might be a contributing factor.
Why Equipment Specs Matter
- Weight & Balance: A racket that is too heavy can fatigue you, while one that is too light might lack stability during high-intensity rallies.
- String Tension: This is the most underrated aspect of your gear. If your tension is too high, you lose power and touch. If it is too low, you lose control. We can test different tensions at the PBI Bangalore Academy courts to see what fits your style.
- Grip Size: A grip that is too small leads to wrist issues, while one that is too large affects your ability to change grips for volleys and serves.
My Approach to Gear Consulting
I offer a full athlete assessment that includes an equipment audit. We analyze your current racket specs, check your string tension, and see how your equipment holds up during match-play simulation. It is about making sure that when you step onto the court in Bengaluru, you are confident in your gear so you can focus entirely on the point.
