Traditional Karate Training for Kids and Teens in Mumbai
Building character, strength, and focus from the very first belt. Join our dojo family and help your child find their inner fire through the discipline of Goju-Ryu.
Two of our young green belt students demonstrate Yakusoku Kumite, a one-step "promise" sparring drill. This foundational exercise teaches all the core elements of Karate-do, including stances, blocking, punching, and salutations, in a completely safe and controlled manner.
One of our youngest yellow belt students proudly demonstrates her fundamental punches. We make learning fun and accessible, teaching core techniques like Jodan, Chudan, and Gedan Tsuki in a way that builds a strong base for their entire karate journey.
Strength, focus, and a bit of fun. Our young students build physical conditioning and discipline through exercises like knuckle pushups and running drills. This foundational training is essential for developing the power and stamina needed for karate.
A young student practices a high kick (Jodan Geri) with the guidance of a senior. This shows the safe and supportive environment we foster, where experienced students help mentor beginners, ensuring proper technique and preventing injury.
About Training the Next Generation
What you see here is Yakusoku Kumite—or 'promise' sparring. It is the cornerstone of how we teach our students to control their power rather than just use it. By using pre-arranged movements, our students learn the mechanics of defense, distance, and respect for their partner in a completely safe, controlled environment. This builds immense confidence and precision long before they ever face an opponent in free-form sparring.
At Rajesh Thakkar's Karate Academy, we believe Karate-do is a way of life, not just a physical activity. Since 1980, we have operated with the philosophy that the dojo is a family, and our training reflects that.
The Goju-Ryu Foundation
We teach traditional Goju-Ryu, which balances 'Go' (hard) and 'Ju' (soft). For our younger students, this means we focus heavily on fundamental movement—stances, balance, and breathing—before moving to complex strikes. Whether it is Jodan (upper), Chudan (mid), or Gedan (lower) punching, we ensure form is perfect before power is added.
More Than Just Fitness
Our classes are designed to build the complete individual:
- Discipline: Regular physical conditioning, like knuckle pushups and running drills, builds the stamina required for long-term development.
- Situational Awareness: We teach our students to read their surroundings, spot potential trouble, and react calmly.
- Confidence: Seeing a child who once walked in shy, suddenly executing a clean Jodan Geri (high kick) with focus, is why we do this.
Join Our Family in Mumbai
We run sessions across Mumbai, including P.J. Hindu Gymkhana at Marine Lines, our Nariman Point dojo, and St. Mary's School in Mazgaon. Our batches are mixed-age and mixed-skill, allowing seniors to mentor juniors, reinforcing our culture of mutual respect. If you want your child to learn resilience, focus, and traditional self-defense in a supportive environment, come visit us for a session. Ganbatte (do your best).
