At RTKA, karate is more than just technique. We are a family rooted in the traditions of Goju-Ryu, where every bow reflects mutual respect and shared growth.

This image captures the essence of our philosophy. Karate begins and ends with respect. Here, our students and instructors perform a collective bow, honoring the space, the teachings, and each other, reinforcing the discipline and humility at the heart of our practice.

About Our Dojo: A Community of Respect

You might see intense training in these photos, but the real strength here is the culture. We don’t just train individuals; we build a supportive community where seniors mentor juniors and parents get involved in the journey. When you step into our dojo, you aren’t just a student—you are a member of a family that celebrates every milestone, from the first white belt to our 44th anniversary.

Since 1980, Rajesh Thakkar's Karate Academy has functioned less like a fitness center and more like an extension of home. Our practice of Goju-Ryu is built on the philosophy that 'Go' (hard) and 'Ju' (soft) must exist in balance, both in movement and in character. This balance is what we strive to pass on to every student, whether you are a four-year-old child or a sixty-year-old adult.

Our dojo is a place where we strip away the hierarchies of the outside world. When we bow to the Shomen, we are not just bowing to the space; we are acknowledging the lineage of masters who came before us and the instructors standing beside us. This tradition fosters a level of discipline and humility that carries over into everyday life, helping our students navigate stress and challenges with focus and calm.

We bridge the gap between Indian values and Japanese martial arts culture. This isn't just theory—it is lived practice. Our senior students and instructors regularly travel to Okinawa, Japan, to train with grandmasters, bringing back authentic techniques and the deep-rooted spirit of Karate-do to Mumbai. Whether we are hosting the Consul-General of Japan for an inauguration or simply sharing a cake after a grading session, these moments reinforce our identity. We are a community that trains together, struggles together, and grows together. If you are looking to find your spark and become part of a legacy that values integrity above medals, our dojo doors are open.

I’m Rajesh Thakkar. For over four decades, I’ve watched students enter my dojo shy and leave as confident black belts. We aren't just a place to train; we are a family that pushes, laughs, and grows stronger together.
