Carnatic Vocals and Konnakol Lessons in Bengaluru
From foundational raga exploration to the rhythmic energy of Konnakol, let's explore Carnatic music together in a warm, judgment-free space.
Here's a glimpse into a one-on-one Carnatic vocal session, where we're exploring different ragas and swara patterns. These focused classes are perfect for students who want to build a strong foundation in classical music.
A fun Konnakol piece I created with a fellow artist. This is an example of how we can explore the creative and rhythmic side of Carnatic music in my workshops.
About Carnatic Vocals & Konnakol
We keep things simple here. My studio in Hanumanthanagar uses traditional floor seating to help you connect better with the pitch and rhythm. Whether you are struggling with a specific Sarale Varase or want to break down complex Jathi patterns in Konnakol, we move at your pace, not the syllabus's pace.
Your Path in Music
Music is about feeling, not just technical perfection. My approach, rooted in the values I learned at Bimba, focuses on breaking down the intimidation factor. Carnatic music has a reputation for being rigid, but it does not have to feel that way.
What We Explore
- Vocal Foundation: We start with the basics like Sarale Varase, but we always pair this with lyrical understanding. You need to know what you are singing to truly express it.
- Konnakol (Vocal Percussion): This is where rhythm comes alive. We use Konnakol to build your internal metronome. If you can speak it, you can play it. This is invaluable for dancers and musicians alike.
- Individual Attention: Whether you join a small group of 4-8 students or opt for 1-on-1 mentorship, my focus is on identifying your specific challenges. We analyze your practice recordings to fix micro-tonal nuances that books simply cannot teach.
Practical Details
My classes are held in an informal home studio environment. We keep batch sizes small to ensure peer learning is effective. For advanced mentorship, I offer extended 60 to 75 minute sessions to dive deep into improvisation techniques like Raga Alapana and Neraval. No judgment, no rush, just music.
