Stop hitting and start playing. Master your stance, grip, and footwork with drills that build a solid batting foundation for leather ball cricket.

Everything starts with the basics. Here, I am explaining how to build a stable, balanced batting stance with feet shoulder-width apart for proper balance.

A player asks how to hold a bat. I am showing the correct V-shape grip for both the top and bottom hand, which is the foundation for every shot.

We break down the backlift. I explain how the lift changes depending on the shot, from a short lift for a defensive block to a high lift for a powerful hit.

A fundamental lesson for every batsman. I am teaching the boys how to take a proper leg stump guard to ensure their alignment and stance are correct from the start.

Correcting a common mistake in the drive. I am explaining why the initial movement should be forward, not back, to keep your body weight transferred into the shot.

How to play a cover drive. I am teaching a player to meet the ball close to his body to keep it on the ground and maintain control.

This is a horizontal bat shot, the pull shot. I am explaining how to use your front foot as a base and get proper arm extension to time the ball well.

A player asks about the sweep shot. I explain that it is a valuable shot against spinners, especially on a turning track where hitting straight is difficult.

This is part one of our basic square cut drills. We start with simple underarm throws to get the body movement and footwork right.

I am showing a young batsman how to watch the ball until the very last moment on a square cut. Your focus on the ball is everything, beta.

About Batting Masterclass

Most coaches tell you to keep your head still, but I tell my players to keep their eyes stable. If your eyes are locked on the ball, your head will naturally follow. It is a small shift, but it changes how you judge the line and length. You do not want to be moving your head excessively and losing sight of the ball in those split seconds.
