Handmade Pencil and Charcoal Portrait Sketches
A sketch is a dialogue between the artist and the subject. Whether through the dramatic contrast of charcoal or the vibrant detail of colored pencils, I aim to capture the soul and character behind every face.

About this collection
I work by appointment only, which allows me to approach every sketch as a meditative act of devotion rather than a quick task. Whether you prefer the deep, smoky blacks of charcoal or my signature mixed-media color style, please understand that this process requires time. I do not believe in rushing the details, as I want the emotional essence of the person in the portrait to emerge naturally on the paper.
My Approach to Sketching
I view sketching as a study of human emotion. When I create a custom portrait sketch, I am not just copying lines from a photo. I am trying to understand the subject's bhav or underlying feeling. This is why I use high-grade materials like Staedtler and Faber-Castell graphite, alongside compressed charcoal for that deep, rich finish that makes a portrait feel alive.
The Mediums I Use
- Charcoal & Graphite: Ideal for high-contrast, dramatic portraits. I use heavy 200+ GSM acid-free paper to ensure these sketches last for generations. Each piece is finished with a matte fixative spray to protect the work from smudging.
- Mixed Media Color Portraits: My signature style. I combine a watercolor or acrylic base for soft skin tones with Polychromos color pencils for sharp, realistic details. This creates a vibrant, warm look that feels more lifelike than a standard photograph.
Why Choose a Hand-Drawn Sketch?
In an age of digital prints, there is an irreplaceable value in a handmade portrait. It carries the energy of the person who created it. Whether it is a realistic pencil drawing of a family member or a charcoal sketch to preserve a memory, these pieces are meant to be heirlooms.
I take pride in the preparation. Every sketch includes standard framing with mount boards and protective glass, so it arrives ready to hang in your home or office. If you are looking for an honest, detailed, and soulful representation of your loved ones, I am here to create that for you.
