Official and Personal Portraits for Dignitaries
Painting a leader or a dignitary requires more than technical skill. It demands an understanding of their service, their history, and the quiet authority they carry.
It was a distinct honor when the Chief Justice of India, Shri Uday Umesh Lalit ji, invited me to his residence to deliver this special commissioned portrait of his oath ceremony. This is the real earning of my life's work.
A portrait of Shri Yogi Adityanath ji, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, painted with the Indian tricolor in the background to reflect his service to the nation.
A tribute to the Lion of Bharat, Yogi Adityanath Ji. This oil portrait was created to honor his fearless leadership and devotion, capturing both the Shakti (power) and Bhakti (devotion) within him.
This painting is a tribute to the late Shri Madan Lal Khurana ji and his son, Shri Harish Khurana ji. It is my humble attempt to capture a father's legacy and a son's love, a bond that transcends time.
A portrait of the Honorable Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah ji, captured in acrylic on a 24 by 1.5 feet canvas. The aim was to reflect his warm personality and strong leadership.
A look at the creation process for the portrait of Shri Amit Shah ji. The painting is built layer by layer, starting with the base tones to capture the likeness and spirit of the subject.
A portrait painting of politician Shri Jayant Chaudhary, capturing a moment of thoughtful contemplation. This piece was created to reflect his calm and composed public persona.
About this collection
When I paint a public figure, a Judge, or an Army General, I am not just recreating features on a canvas. I am documenting a moment in their service. Whether it is the sharp uniform of an Air Chief Marshal or the thoughtful gaze of a Chief Minister, my goal is to bring out that specific gravity. I work with oil, acrylic, and charcoal to ensure the texture of the uniform and the expression in the eyes feel real, almost as if the subject is present in the room with you.
Painting figures of national importance is a practice of immense responsibility. For a portrait of a freedom fighter like Lok Manya Tilak, the research is as critical as the brushwork. I need to understand the historical context, the atmosphere of the courtroom, and the spirit of the era to make the painting feel authentic.
For commissioned portraits of current leaders, I focus on the 'bhav' or the emotional essence. When I painted the Chief Justice of India or the Home Minister, the process began by studying their persona, how they carry themselves, the way they hold a conversation, and the silent strength they project. My studio in Paschim Vihar, Delhi, becomes a space where these stories are translated into art.
The military portraits hold a special place in my heart. Capturing the intricate details of collar tabs, medals, and regimental symbols is not just about precision, it is about showing respect to those who have dedicated their lives to the nation. I use high-grade Winsor and Newton oils on double-primed linen canvas for these pieces, ensuring they remain preserved as historical documents for decades. If you are looking to commission a portrait that carries the weight of history and the integrity of the subject, let us discuss how we can bring that vision to life.
Raajan Maluuja
I am Dr. Raajan Maluuja. For me, painting is a form of prayer, a sadhana where the brush is just an extension of my intent. I do not see these as business orders, every portrait, whether for a head of state or a family, is an offering of my soul.
