A Bharatanatyam performance comes alive only when the dancer and the musicians share a rhythm. I bring a full 4-piece Carnatic ensemble to every event, turning a simple recital into a deep, sensory conversation between melody and movement.

A performance is a conversation between dance and music. I almost always perform with a live Carnatic orchestra, including vocals, flute, and mridangam, whose melodies and rhythms elevate the entire recital into a complete sensory experience.

During a lecture-demonstration, you can see the live musicians who accompany me. Their contribution is vital, providing the rhythmic and melodic foundation upon which the dance is built.

About The Complete Experience: Dance with Live Music

When I perform, my musicians are not just playing in the background; they are part of the story. We arrive 60 minutes early for a mandatory sound check because the mridangam and flute need to balance perfectly with my steps to make the abhinaya (expression) truly reach you.

For me, the soul of a Bharatanatyam performance lies in the dialogue between the dancer and the musicians. While recorded tracks have their place, they cannot capture the raw, spontaneous energy of a live Carnatic orchestra. When I perform at weddings, corporate gatherings, or private home events across Delhi NCR, I am joined by four senior accompanying artists—a vocalist, a mridangam player, a flutist, and a nattuvangam artist.

This isn't just about music; it's about connection. If I see the audience engaging with a specific emotion or a particular story from the epics, the musicians can subtly shift the tempo or the melody to match that moment. That is the magic of live performance. We work as a unit to ensure that every gesture, every rhythmic footwork pattern (nritta), and every expressive piece (abhinaya) is supported by the live notes.

Because of this complexity, I ensure we have the right setup. We require 5-6 microphones to capture the nuances of the flute and the percussion properly. Whether it is a thematic storytelling piece or a traditional Margam, the ensemble creates an immersive environment that transforms the space. If you are looking for a performance that feels intimate and alive, this complete experience is designed exactly for that.
