Dance is a language, and I love helping audiences understand the stories behind the mudras and rhythms. Whether for schools, corporate gatherings, or cultural groups, my sessions bring Bharatanatyam to life through performance and conversation.

Here I am giving a lecture-demonstration for SPIC MACAY at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology. I explain the nuances of Bharatanatyam, from hand gestures to rhythmic patterns, to share this beautiful art form with a new audience.

About Lec-Dems & Educational Sessions

My approach is never just a lecture. I break down the Navarasa (nine emotions) and hand gestures into simple, relatable stories, so even those seeing Bharatanatyam for the first time feel like they truly understand the language of the dance.

Bridging Tradition and Curiosity

I believe that Bharatanatyam is a living, breathing art form. My lecture-demonstrations are designed to remove the distance between the stage and the audience. Whether I am at a school in Delhi or a corporate cultural event, my goal is to spark a connection.

What You Can Expect

Every session is a blend of storytelling and demonstration. I keep the structure flexible to suit your audience:

  • The History & The Art: I explain the origins of Bharatanatyam, the significance of the costumes, and the history of temple jewellery.
  • The Language of Dance: We explore Mudras (hand gestures) and how they narrate complex mythological stories without speaking a single word.
  • Demonstration: I perform short segments—15 to 20 minutes—to illustrate the points I discuss, showing you the difference between Nritta (rhythm) and Abhinaya (expression).
  • Interactive Q&A: I always save time for questions. Whether you are curious about the music, the rigorous training, or why I perform with live orchestra, I am happy to chat.

Why Book a Lec-Dem?

It is perfect for institutions that want more than just a performance. It provides context. When an audience understands the 'why' behind the 'how', the performance becomes much more impactful. I carry forward the legacy of my guru and mother, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan, in these sessions, sharing the technical depth she taught me with a new generation of rasikas (connoisseurs).

I believe that dance is a living tradition, not just a set of steps. Through my lecture-demonstrations, I bridge the gap between ancient art and the modern audience, sharing the history and emotions that my mother, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan, passed down to me.
