Dance is better when shared. Here is a glimpse into the joy, discipline, and synchronized magic my students and I create together on stage.

My senior disciples performing a powerful piece on the goddess Durga. The stage comes alive with their synchronized movements and energy. I choreograph group pieces that are visually spectacular and emotionally resonant.

This is the beautiful result of our shared dedication. My senior disciples performing a Tillana, their movements and hearts perfectly in sync. I choreograph group performances that are not just technically sound but also full of life and unity.

The Kalangan clan, all smiles after a successful performance. The bond between a guru and shishya, and among the dancers themselves, is what makes our journey in dance so special. I am so proud of each of them.

Final rehearsals before a big performance at Kamani Auditorium. My disciples are seen here perfecting their formations and timing. This is a crucial part of preparing for a professional stage show.

A behind the scenes look at our stage rehearsals. As a guru, I guide my students through every step, ensuring their positions, expressions, and movements are perfect. It takes hours of strenuous work to create the magic you see on show day.

Two days to go for the Kalangan Annual Day. The excitement builds as my students run through their pieces. Group choreography requires immense coordination and practice, and I guide them to perform as one entity.

Three days before the show, even my youngest students are full of energy and focus. I work with dancers of all ages, nurturing their love for Bharatanatyam from their very first steps on the dance floor.

About this collection

Choreography is never just about getting the steps right; it is about holding the space together. When my students prepare for a stage production, we spend weeks working on formations and timing, but the real work happens in the silent moments. It is the eye contact during a turn, the shared breath before a fast jathi, and the way they lean on each other when the lights go up. It takes hours of strenuous rehearsals to reach that seamless unity you see on stage.

Our Approach to Group Performance

When I work with a group, whether it is my senior disciples or a new batch of students, my goal is to transform individual dancers into a single, breathing entity. Bharatanatyam is an intense, precise art form, and when you bring multiple dancers together, the complexity multiplies. We focus heavily on:

  • Geometric Precision: Every formation is designed to maximize stage presence, ensuring the dancers move as one.
  • Rhythmic Unity: We spend extensive time on synchronization. If one dancer is a fraction of a second off, the energy of the entire piece shifts.
  • Emotional Connection: Even in group pieces, I push for individual abhinaya. I want every dancer to be present and expressive, not just following a sequence.

Preparing for the Stage

Performance preparation at Kalangan is a rigorous process. From the initial concepts to the final rehearsals at venues like Kamani Auditorium, we treat every session like a workshop. It is about building stamina, perfecting transitions, and fostering the deep bond of trust that defines our lineage. We don't just practice steps; we practice presence.

Whether you are looking for a group choreography project for an institution or need support in preparing students for a professional stage show, my focus remains on the craft and the joy of classical dance. We bring a high level of discipline to these rehearsals, ensuring that when the curtain rises, the performance is polished, authentic, and full of heart.

At Kalangan, dance is the language our family speaks. I do not just teach steps; I nurture the bond between each dancer and the art, creating a space where my students feel like my own children. When we stand on stage together, it is pure magic.
