I believe that classical dance is for everyone to understand and feel. Through my lecture-demonstrations, I strip away the mystery, sharing the stories, history, and emotions that breathe life into every movement.

Giving a lecture-demonstration at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology. It was an honor to introduce Bharatanatyam to a new audience through SPIC MACAY. These events allow me to share the history and technique of the dance form.

It was a profound honor to perform at the Pt. Birju Maharaj Memorial Concert. Paying homage to a legend through my own art form is a humbling experience that connects us all in the larger family of Indian classical dance.

This poster is from the SPIC MACAY North Zone Convention where I performed. Being part of such events allows me to share the stage with incredible artists and connect with young audiences across the country.

I was deeply honored to be featured by Ashirvachan as "Bharatanatyam's Leading Light". It is fulfilling to be recognized for my dedication to layam, taalam, and abhinaya, the core elements of this beautiful art form.

Another poster from the Pt. Birju Maharaj Memorial Concert, sharing the stage with other wonderful artists. These events are a celebration of our shared cultural heritage and the gurus who have guided us.

About this collection

I don't just demonstrate steps on stage. In my sessions, I break down the Navarasas—the nine emotions—and explain how our traditional mudras function as a narrative language. Whether I am at a university auditorium or a cultural centre, my goal is to strip away the intimidating layer of 'classical dance' and show you that it is, at its core, simply a human story we all share.

For me, the stage is also a classroom. Over the years, working with organizations like SPIC MACAY has allowed me to travel across India, connecting with students and young audiences who might be seeing Bharatanatyam for the first time.

My lecture-demonstrations are designed to be an open conversation. We don't just watch; we explore. I guide the audience through the technical foundations of layam and taalam, but we spend just as much time talking about the 'why'. Why do we use certain hand gestures? What does the poetry of the bhakti saints mean for us today?

I tailor these sessions to the audience. For schools, we focus on the mythology and the simple joy of rhythm. For university students or arts colleges, we dive deeper into the history, the choreography process, and the discipline required to maintain this tradition. I often invite audience members to try basic mudras themselves—there is no better way to learn than to try it with your own hands.

Whether you are hosting an event in Delhi NCR or looking for a guest expert for a cultural program, my aim is to leave the audience not just entertained, but enriched with a deeper appreciation for the art form I inherited from my Amma.

I am Ragini. At Kalangan, dance is how we keep our family history and my Amma’s teachings alive. I would love to bring this same depth of emotion and tradition to your institution through a lecture-demonstration.
