About First Quilts: Beginner & Kids Classes
You do not need to bring a sewing machine or have prior experience to get started. Our classes are designed to be hands-on, where we set you up with premium Bernina machines and guide you through every step—from rotary cutting and piecing to the final binding—so you walk away with a finished project like a baby quilt or a tote bag.
Your First Quilt, Step-by-Step
Learning to quilt is about the process as much as the final piece. We run small, hands-on workshops in our Langford Town studio that strip away the intimidation of complex sewing. You get full access to our high-end Bernina machines and professional cutting tables, so you only need to bring your enthusiasm.
Flexible Learning Options
We offer paths for different schedules:
- 10-Session Course: A comprehensive 30-hour deep dive perfect for beginners. You will master fabric selection, rotary cutting, piecing, and machine quilting to finish a significant project like a patchwork tote or a baby quilt.
- Single Drop-in Sessions: If you have a specific technique you are struggling with or just want to finish a project, these 3-hour sessions give you full studio access and guidance to troubleshoot your work.
- Kids Workshops: We welcome young creators from age 12. These sessions are simplified to ensure they experience the joy of making something functional and fun.
Whether you want to learn patchwork, create a memory quilt from old fabrics, or master bag making, our approach is straightforward and skill-focused. You go at your own pace, and we ensure you have the tools and confidence to complete your project.
