About Memory & Keepsake Quilts

When planning your memory quilt, the condition of your fabric is everything. While we can work with most t-shirts, sarees, and old clothing, ensure the pieces you bring are clean and stable. We will help you choose the final layout and pattern, but having a rough idea of the size—whether a lap quilt, a throw, or a queen-size bedspread—helps us calculate exactly how many garments you need to provide to make the design work.

Every piece of clothing holds a story, and our goal is to stitch those stories together so they can be enjoyed rather than hidden in a cupboard. Whether you have a stack of your husband's old flannel shirts or a collection of your children’s outgrown tees, we treat every item with care.

Our Process

  1. Fabric Selection: You bring the fabrics. We check for wear and tear to ensure they will survive the quilting process.
  2. Stabilization: Old knits and soft cottons often need backing or stabilization. We handle this in the studio so the finished quilt remains sturdy and durable.
  3. Design & Piecing: From traditional checkerboard patterns to complex Sawtooth Star designs or modern 'bookshelf' layouts, we work with you to arrange the fabric blocks effectively.
  4. Professional Quilting: Using our Bernina and Handi Quilter longarm machines, we finish the quilt with custom stitching patterns, like 'stitch in the ditch' or free-motion ruler work, to ensure the layers stay secure and the design pops.

Why Memory Quilts?

Unlike mass-produced blankets, these pieces are inherently personal. We have seen everything from tapestry restoration to t-shirt quilts featuring embroidered dates and messages. If you are worried about whether your collection is large enough, just bring it by the studio in Langford Town. We can mix and match fabrics to create a cohesive, beautiful result, even if you are working with scraps or varying material types.
