Urban Sanctuaries: Designing Calm Terraces & Balconies
Transforming city terraces into peaceful retreats. I create calm, soulful outdoor spaces that let you disconnect from the chaos and reconnect with yourself.
This terrace is a calm oasis amidst the city's rush. I designed it with intention, from the comfortable seating that invites you to slow down, to a discreet pantry and a Buddha corner that brings a sense of stillness.
This is for when a bohemian interior is your vibe. This sea-facing balcony is all about free-spirited, boho-chic style, with rattan furniture, macrame cushions, and a mix of natural textures that perfectly complement the stunning view.
A full view of the cozy boho balcony, where every element is chosen to create a relaxed and stylish vibe. The rattan chairs, wooden chest, and wall decor all work together to make this the perfect spot to enjoy the sea breeze.
Imagine waking up to this breathtaking city view every single day. I always design to maximize natural light and stunning vistas, making the view itself a key part of the home's decor.
A romantic table setup is all about the details. For this Valentine's dinner on a 64th-floor terrace, I used fairy lights, roses, a cupcake-shaped candle, and of course, the stunning city lights as a backdrop.
The seating on this terrace was planned for slow conversations and quiet moments. The geometric floor tiles add a modern touch, while the comfortable, dark-cushioned sofas provide the perfect spot to sit back and relax.
I created this corner on the terrace to be a focal point of calm. A collection of green plants and a serene Buddha statue instantly brings a sense of pause and tranquility to this outdoor space.
A terrace needs to be functional too. I designed this pantry to be useful for hosting, with a sink and counter space, but its clean lines and simple materials ensure it doesn't take away from the peaceful vibe.
Even the smallest decor items, or curios, were added carefully to this terrace. These little cherub statues add a touch of whimsy without disturbing the overall sense of calm we wanted to achieve.
This living room opens up to a beautiful sea-facing balcony. I used layered coffee tables and comfortable seating to create a space where you can enjoy the view from both indoors and out.
About Urban Sanctuaries
Designing an outdoor sanctuary in a city like Mumbai is not just about placing furniture; it is about controlling the environment to create a private escape. I focus on creating a visual and auditory barrier using strategic plant placement and soft, ambient lighting to mute the city's noise, ensuring your terrace feels like a personal retreat rather than just another open balcony.
Living in a high-rise city, your balcony often becomes your only connection to the outside world. I treat these spaces as 'Urban Sanctuaries'—places designed to reset your energy. Whether it is a sea-facing balcony or a small terrace in the middle of a crowded locality, I work to make it feel private, serene, and grounded.
My process involves understanding how you truly want to use the space. Is it for slow, quiet coffee mornings, or a setup for romantic, candlelit dinners? I prioritize functional details like weather-resistant flooring, durable furniture that withstands coastal humidity, and soft lighting that creates warmth without overwhelming the space. For spiritual alignment, I often integrate Vastu-compliant layouts or serene focal points, such as a Buddha statue nestled amidst lush greenery, to anchor the area.
I also focus on 'soft-engineering' privacy. By using layered planting, vertical garden walls, or sheer drapes, I build a cozy buffer between you and the city view. My goal is to ensure that when you step out, the noise fades and the calm takes over. Every terrace project is a balance of durable materials and soulful, relaxing aesthetics designed to last.

I do not just design homes; I create stories. When I look at a terrace, I see a place for your quiet morning chai or a starlit dinner. My goal is to turn that outdoor concrete patch into your favorite corner of calm.
