Journeys & Expeditions: Capturing India's Remote Landscapes
Photography isn't just about the final frame. These images are from my expeditions across India, where the travel is just as important as the shot.
A video recap of my expedition to Ladakh in search of the snow leopard. It shows the biting cold, the local culture, and the incredible wildlife of the region in winter.
This video shows the challenging and often treacherous roads one must travel to capture the beauty of Zanskar. It's a testament to the effort that goes into the art.
The famous houseboats of Srinagar, Kashmir, on a misty morning. I hope to return to this beautiful destination in a different season to capture another perspective.
The shikaras and houseboats of Dal Lake in Srinagar, lit up at night. A long exposure captures the motion of the boats and the reflections on the water.
Shikaras on Dal Lake at sunset. Kashmir truly lived up to its reputation as one of the prettiest regions of India.
The incredible road to Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, cutting straight through the flooded Rann of Kutch. An unforgettable aerial perspective.
A top-down abstract shot of bird tracks in the Rann of Kutch, near the ancient site of Dholavira. The patterns look like a natural painting.
The coastline near Dholavira at sunset, where the white salt desert meets the sea.
The traditional round huts, or 'bhungas', of a resort in Dholavira, captured from the air.
A compilation of my favourite photos from 2023, a year filled with travel, adventure, and countless beautiful moments.
About Journeys & Expeditions
Getting these shots rarely involves just showing up. Most of these frames required long-distance planning, enduring extreme temperatures, and often, multi-day treks. When you look at these images, you are seeing the result of days spent scouting locations and waiting for the right light, rather than just a quick snapshot.
I do not believe in chasing trends. For me, a photograph is a memory of an experience, which is why I prefer the slow process of long-exposure and drone photography. Whether I am navigating the treacherous, dusty roads of Zanskar to find the perfect vista or waiting for the sun to hit the white salt flats of Dholavira, the objective remains the same: capturing a place as it actually feels.
In regions like the Rann of Kutch, the vastness can be deceptive. Without a bird's-eye perspective, you lose the scale of the ancient Harappan architecture. That is where aerial photography becomes essential. Conversely, in the Himalayas, the challenge is physical. Cold fingers and altitude sickness are part of the process, but they force you to slow down and really study the light.
If you are looking for generic stock images, you will not find them here. My portfolio is a collection of lived experiences across India, intended for those who appreciate the patience required to make an image rather than just taking one.

I’m Pratap. I spend as much time on the road as I do behind a lens. If I’m not exploring the nooks of namma Karnataka, I’m usually out somewhere remote, waiting for the weather to turn or the stars to align.
